Anna Kenndal Desperately Tries to Find Form on Grass
After a stunning quarter-finals at the Australian and a semi-final in Doha that featured some beautiful ball striking and surprising wins, Anna Kenndal had been labelled as the hope for American women's tennis for when Harper and Jen retire. She did not cope with the pressure well and soon began a downward spiral filled with broken rackets, tears and a lot of double faults. Anna Kenndal has now lost the last 6 of her matches, lost 9 of her last 10 matches and since her run in Doha and at the Aussie Open has a terrible record of 3-11. This record of 3-11 is more shocking when you learn that in two of the three matches she won, her opponents were very injured and barely finished the matches. She has at times displayed great tennis such as when she won the doubles title in Indian Wells but in singles has always choked in the final moments and has also shown the worst the tour has ever seen coming into Nurnberger with 456 double faults this year alone including a match again Vittoria Perez where she double faulted 39 times. Even on the practice courts, you no longer see the fearless hitting and spirit that you could see earlier in the year. She looks broken down and tired of the constant losing. She lost in all three event she entered and after holding 5 match points in her third set tiebreak loss to Emma Anderson sobbed for the next 5 hours in the locker room fed up with losing after holding match points. She now barely makes enough money to finance her career and has lost her entire team besides a devoted coach. Walking into the facility with a white hoodie, she was asked what she wanted to accomplish during the grass season. She replied "I want to win a mother fucking match."
