Re: Womens Tennis in General, vol. 2

Serena wins 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. I admit I didn't expect Petra to put up such a good fight, but it seems fitting that Serena shouldn't regain the #1 ranking with a small, routine win. It became a real battle between two great fighters with Serena a hair better at the end.

Caro up next.

Serena herself was pretending that.

At least now she can't pull her nothing to lose crap.

Re: Womens Tennis in General, vol. 2

Fun fact: Serena and Caro both gained the #1 ranking by beating Kvitova (Caro in Beijing 10).

Interesting. I'm kind of wanting Caro to play Petra at some point this season.

Re: Womens Tennis in General, vol. 2

Tomorrow's Doha matches sure seem awfully predictable:

Aga has lost 6 in a row to Vika with the last four losses being in straight sets (she didn't win more than 4 games in any set) and I don't think Aga ever was in a good position to win a set (such as a lead of 3-0, 3-1, 4-1, or 4-2).

Sharapova has lost 9 in a row to Serena with the last five losses being in straights (the first of those five losses is the last time Sharapova won more than 4 games in a set which was a 7-6 set).

I don't think their games will generally result in a good match between the two of them. Kvitova's go for broke style would either result in a ton of winners with not so many unforced errors which would almost certainly result in a Kvitova win, probably a fairly routine win or an outright beatdown, or a huge amount of unforced errors which would likely result in a Caro win of some sort.

It's Fields' fact machine.

I like their matches because their styles or so contrasting. I think that if Caro had a bit of Kvitova's power and Kvitty a bit of Caro's grind it would make them both a hell of a player.

Ugh. Too many matchups near the top of the game are so predictable.

Don't fret. The status quo is not everlasting.

I believe that this is Maria's day. She is finally going to get another win over Serena.

Serena wins the 1st set 6-3 in about 34 minutes. She had a set point at 40-30 at 5-2 on Sharapova's serve.

Still think it's Sharapova's day?
