Well, she didn't manage 4 games against Aga.

A surprisingly convincing victory over the up and coming American Maria Sanchez (#114 and ranked in qualies while Shahar isn't) in Wimbledon Q2, her first slam qualies since AO 2005.
Has a winnable match vs MLDB for a place in the main draw.

The "winnable" match did not turn out well. She loses 3-6 0-6! Barring a secret physical health issue, I can't see why she is subjecting herself to the protracted agony of this decline. Is she going to wait to retire until she drops out of the top 200 or 300? Perhaps she is waiting for some arbitrary age deadline or she feels some obligation to represent Israel in the Fed Cup? I am open to any other explanations outside of the obvious, which is that she is in deep denial.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

That she can win a certain match doesn't mean she will actually do it...
Out of 6 times she had to play qualifying this season she only made it to the MD twice (losing QR and getting a LL spot doesn't count) and lost R1 in these too.

If she waits till she drops out of the top 200 it will take a while since she got next to nothing to defend for the rest of the year, and will in fact go up a bit with those 50 ranking points.

She just got in to the Budapest tournament coming up in July without having to qualify. She was in top 4 alternates and they cancelled qualifiers(flooding issues), and she was bumped in to the main draw.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

R1 against Xenia Knoll in Budapest! This is really winnable Shahar.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

6-1 6-1 today... Should be a tough match next against Cadantu or Hlavackova.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

So it's Cadantu...Shahar should have beaten her in Katowice, and Alex almost lost to Andrea today, so I'm hoping she can get her revenge.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Yep. Not exactly the hardest draw even for a MM, to put it mildly, and considering Tatishvili is in as bad a slump as the one Shahar is slowly climbing out of (though this kind of beatdown was a pleasant surprise), Cadantu is her first real match here - and probably the last, as the winner of this QF stands no chance against the red-hot Halep.

Cadantu was unimpressive in her victory today(she almost lost). I watched about half of Shahar's match against Tatishvili and would rate her a slight favorite in tomorrow's match vs Cadantu. I agree with you that that is as far as she goes.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

Shahar loses to Cadantu 0-6 5-7. Came out flat for the entire first set. Started doing better in the second set but her inconsistent game let her down again.

Re: Shahar Cheering Thread 2013!

As said, this was in many ways her only real (or even on paper) match of the tournament, with a chance for her first SF in a year and a half.
Disappointing loss.
