Re: SemiPova returns to flop in Doha. GSM Serena 6-3 6-2.

That's the thing, I am not bitter at all about Serena. Yes, she and her fans can be a bit too much but I respect her for her amazing ability. It's up to Maria to bring the goods against her so there's really no point in being bitter towards Serena.

I was watching some 2008 highlights there, I actually feel that in some ways Maria's BH is better, if she could only hit it down the line. I honestly feel if she would just commit to going for the lines more she wouldn't be far off that form, even if she isn't as consistent. I think the problems in her game are really just basic and tactical ones at this stage. They really shouldn't be hard to iron out with commitment and dedication to recognising them and tackling them from herself and her team.

I do agree with people who say her game is a very good fit for clay (I do still wonder if she's maybe a bit better on Plexicushion at her best though), because it's just beyond doubt at this point that surfaces that give her that little bit more time to set her feet right and have a full swing makes her a lot more comfortable.

physique is really the core element of a player's game. 2-3 inch and 10-15lbs extra can make enourmous difference.
She had peaks, but not enough consistent to gain enough court-control and first-strike tennis that a tall (less mobile) player actually needs.
Clueless people can criticise her athletism, but cutting off 3 inch is close to impossible, and not everybody is so natural like Venus (and even she is shorter, also no surprise she had more success on faster courts).

clay can be really different, and as Peak VIP (sic) and Safina also showed, size means much less there.

Just go back hiding in Venus' forum and keep mentioning how you were rooting for her during Australian Open. Fake fan.

You're a mess

I was slightly pulling for Ivanovic during her Rome match with Maria last year. It had nothing to do with liking one over the other, but I felt Ana needed the win more. Does that make me a fake fan?

Vika won , this will make things more interesting . Hopefully Maria stays in contention with those two and wins some titles this year .

Maria should've played Dubai, why did she even bother travelling this far if it's only for Doha?

Random thought, but it would be hilarious if she found a way to get Sugarpova into the of the nominees swag bags.

Did you know Sugarpova was on the front row of David Koma's catwalk
because the collection was inspired by the classic white tennis dress

People on messageboards used to joke about the growth spurt excuse her fans would put out there back in the day. But I have wondered if it has had an impact on her movement and shot consistency. When you're that tall, lanky, and awkward, maybe she just can't always get her limbs to do what she needs them to do. When you look at her footwork, her service motion, or her groundstrokes, so many times there's been something that goes off during matches.

I know nagging injuries played a part in it, but Maria has never been able to sustain a long stretch of excellent tennis where she was the best or near it. Look at the many stretches Serena has had, or what Vika has accomplished for the past year. Or even Woz, when she stayed at number one for 67 weeks. I know Maria is hardly the first tall player, but I wonder if her height really has contributed to her inconsistency throughout the years. Take Venus, for instance. She's had fewer weeks at number one than even Maria, which is hard to believe when you think about her accomplishments. But, like Maria, consistency with her mechanics has been an issue, whether with the serve or her forehand. So maybe there is something to too much height being a detriment.

EDIT: Now that I've seen it I remember seeing those pics but never realised what they were at. Well he is her go to guy for events so it's isn't that much of a surprise.
