last 5 slams:
Vika-Serena in same half - 2 times
Maria-Serena in same half - 2 times (same quarter both times)
Maria-Serena in same quarters Miami & Madrid equals Olympics and YEC. Doha equals Brisbane.
Its not Maria's fault if/when Serena cant make that far.

I'm not saying that. I'm not defending Vika whatsoever ( ) but in 2013 she's had Serena twice so it's good for Masha to have her so early on in the season/in a non-slam. In 2012 they didn't meet until Madrid I think, so hopefully she'll do well

Garcia?!! I'm not ready for this! why Garcia? She's a scrub who'll be ready to play another GOAT match against Maria! That 2r at RG 2011 still haunts me!
Come on local girl! Win your first round match!

Players in contention -
the top half is basically:
Vika vs. Errani/Aga/Caro/Kerber
then the bottom half is:
Masha/Sam/Bartoli/Petra/Serena
I don't mind that Masha might get Garcia, because looking at her perspective opponents she could possibly face a lefty/aggressive counterpuncher/precision offence/top spin until the SF. So that's a good range of playing styles to come through.

That RG 2011 match
I had left after the first set in utter despair to drown my sorrows in a massive burger ( ) and was listening to the second set on RG Radio on my phone. I raced back in time to see the epic 3rd set

Garcia is a total scrub. It took Maria playing her worst claycourt match of 2010-12 for Garcia to make it so competitive against her, and even then, Garcia was totally overwhelmed once Maria finally got to a semi-decent level.

Good point! 2010-2011 Maria isn't something I like to think about . I'm curious to see if she has a markedly easier time with her this time around

I wouldn't say 05-06Pova didn't fight....it was more that her stamina was pretty appalling for the standards of a top player. For all of the current Pova's flaws, you would NEVER see her today physically run out of gas like she did towards the end of those AO semifinals in '05 and '06, where she was barely moving her feet and was getting next to no velocity on her strokes in the last games of both matches.

And btw, retaliating by calling Vika catewalk-A is just lame. If ya gonna hit back at GM ( ), at the very least be creative about it.

awesome post btw, cosmic you were asking in another thread that i slay ss and some1 said i am a troll. I beg to differ. I call myself a masha fan coz am a masha fan, dosnt mean i wl hv to agree with evry other masha fan right? I have never first attackd any player or poster in Gm. I have only retaliatd when someone has unnecessarily bashed any one of my faves for eg. Vika.
P.s. I hv indian flag coz it is my country and i dnt post much here coz am busy in medical college.

Re: GOATpova returns to stay undefeated in Doha. Maria has arrived|DRAWS OUT!
So, basically, we need the fitness and stamina of today's Maria to go with the better precision, fight, and, dare I say, variety of 2004-2008 Maria. Then we'd see her go tooth and nail in some back and forth semifinal and final 3-setters with the likes of Serena, Vika, and Li Na, instead of seeing her get dumptrucked in meek fashion.
There's no question Maria is more than capable of going 2 and a half or 3 hours in a match if need be and not look fatigued. But she just errors herself to death before she can get any traction, so stamina and match pressure never even come into play. And, especially against someone like Li Na, extending a match is absolutely essential because she will crumble more often than not in tight situations. I want to see Maria do a MUCH better job at digging in against top opponents when momentum isn't going her way.

It depresses me that a Vika troll is in medical school and I'm not.
