She is good for the WTA because she isn't a slamless Number 1. She has displayed the heart of a champion and that is something that we haven't seen except from a handful of players in the last 5-6 years. I don't like her as much as I used to BUT I respect her more after defending her AO title.
It is good for the WTA that she is polarizing because even if people are showing up in stands to boo Vika they still had to pay admission. All in all she is a net positive.

She is cocky, but unlike Pova, she has a sense of humor, is extrovert and is not afraid to show her weaknesses on court. She looks the way she acts: quite natural; and brings a more than wellcome amount of tension and drama to her matches. She will win many more GS, and is, by far, after Serena, the best and most competitive and resourceful player on tour.

She isn't good for the WTA. People aren't tuning in to watch her play because they don't care about her. But she's not bad for the WTA, because not many people are tuning out to avoid watching her. She's a good player to hold the #1.
When people say she's not good for the WTA, I think they don't mean she's harming the WTA, just there are many more players who would be much better to promote the WTA because Vika doesn't interest viewers.

She's no media darling like Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova, but I really see her game as a star example for developing players. Except her relatively weak serve, Vika has all the weapons.
