Re: Lisicki appoints Ricardo Sanchez as coach

I think this is potentially a very good move. Even though his technical expertise is probably limited, it does seem like he did a world of good with Jankovic and Petrova at motivating them and getting them to pick up their work ethic - and the latter certainly seems to be a problem with Lisicki.

Really hope this works out. Sabine has incredible potential, would be sad to see her become yet another of the 'what ifs' of the WTA.

Re: Lisicki appoints Ricardo Sanchez as coach

It seems the highlight of her career is saving Wimbledon from dirtballers (Kuzzy, Li, Sharapova). She will probably always remain inconsistent and erratic, but maybe Sanchez helps her with some aspects.

Of course not. If he was like Piotr Wozniacki Lisicki would have been floating in the Yarra river after round one. He´s a softie, I guess. But there is also potential for conflict, if Sanchez comes at her hard and she complains to her dad. Then he´ll have to take a step back and stay out of it.

Oh no doubt. This is the correct decision. For Lisicki to take her whole game to the next level, she needed a change. Wouldn´t shock me, if the impulse came from her father. After the suspicious Sydney withdrawal and the circumstances of the 1st round loss he might have come to the realization that he has taken her as far as he could. Time to sink or swim for Lisicki.

Re: Lisicki appoints Ricardo Sanchez as coach

for 2 years I had been hoping Sabine get a decent coach, she had already run into a ceiling by Wim 2011, Richard did a good job with her but the next top 10 level requires a real professional who can coach at that level. Last AO Sabine got deeper into both AO and deep into Wim, but on nothing but guts and hustle, this year, she's improved several areas that were still a big mess this time last year, namely her fitness, movement, she's slim and looking much better physically, her rally ball is way better than it was against Pova at AO 2012, unfortunately she's quite neglected her serve which should be her signature weapon. The thing that keeps encouraging me about Sabine is that she does NOT lack courage, even if she lacks several screws between her ears and was so wildly up and down against Wozniacki. Psychological management is the thing here. Sanchez has come in at, I suspect, the exact right time for her. I'm actually VERY optimistic about this. Whereas just outside top 10 was the limit she had been able to reach on her own, Sanchez will take her to the next level.

Re: Lisicki appoints Ricardo Sanchez as coach

It's already starting to make me laugh everytime I hear somebody is hiring Ricardo Sanchez. He really became some sort of "short term coaching hooker" after he split up with JJ. Jumping around players, taking the cash and trying to "deliver" and get kicked shortly afterwards. It's getting a bit ridiculous Ricky baby.
