Australian Open R3: [2] Maria Sharapova d. [25] Venus Williams 6-1 6-3

28 games in a row is the new Open Era record. Reached the R4 with same games lost as Graf in 89' (4).

Pretty good from Maria, pretty poor from Venus, not much more too it.

AO R3: [2] Maria Sharapova def. [25] Queen Vee 6-1 6-3

Clean match for Maria, she was ready for this match completely

Vee made alot of UE today, wasn't moving best, but Maria also forced a lot of errors from her.

Overall, this match definitely wasn't close to living up to the hype

It got messy towards the end Maria had 6-1 5-1, but had trouble closing it out and Vee started playing better.

Vee

Masha, good luck in next round girl

Idk why I'm even creating this thread as it will undoubtedly get merged like 7 previous ones I tried to post at the AO, but oh well, worth the shot

AO R3: Maria Sharapova Defeats Venus Williams 6-1. 6-3

peak sharapova is shining.. congrats to her and her fans... the nice ones at least

venus just a shadow of what she once were.. sometimes i feel her comeback is just too much to ask for me as a fan, but i own her that.. shes someone that not only gave me so much joy, she awoke me for the sport that i love.. therefore, i can only support her intention of proving to herself that shes bigger than any disease and setting an example, just like she did her whole life.. so here i am venus.. you went vegan, ill freeze my heart and well be here.. today and tomorrow, until the end

Excellent stuff from Maria. Truly excellent.

Meanwhile, Venus should use this to get her game and confidence up several levels by May.

Re: AO R3: Maria Sharapova Defeats Venus Williams 6-1. 6-3

This is what happens when Venus is OFF and Sharapova is ON

Venus was just awful tonight Poor serving and the forehand was absent for the whole match. Sharapova did cause her to hit forced errors. There were also a handful of points in which Venus got the upper hand and then missed what would have been the finishing forehand shot. She also just didn't return Sharapova's second serves well. Hopefully her form will improve in her next tournament.

Sharapova played solid tennis, and rarely gave away any free points. We knew she would be consistently hitting deep and hard, and she did just that. She'll breeze through to the semis before facing an opponent who can challenge her. Those over-the-top "c'mons" brought me back to her 2004-2006 period though and were quite unnecessary.

btw Chris Fowler really got on my nerves during this match I knew he was annoying before but he really...that guy needs to go.

Venus is overrated.

Good win for Maria. The way she behaved in some parts of the match you would think that was the final...

I honestly thought she was going to choke there for a second...

Sorry, Venus. I have actually come to like you recently.
