Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2

Well, Muguruza is a VERY good player but I still favoured Mona on this type of surface.

Not much to say here, better times will come. Hopefully.

Mona is the one to suffer the most i would guess, so I don't get the overreactions ever and ever again.

Mona-- off her game since before the clay season. Has nothing to defend at W. Hope for a good draw!

What do you mean with overreactions ?
Beside the indeed interesting question whether it is of any means what the people in here are thinking about Mona the comments imo all are signs that they are - as you - sympathizing with her.

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2

Muguruza indeed was not that easy a draw, and being a qualifier was in form and used to the conditions. Hopefully Mona can do better in Wimbledon.

If you support someone, you obviously get emotionally involved, but all of that facepalming and eye rolling here, it's just too much. Stay positive, that's what we "expect" from the player we support, so why not us?

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2

Maybe in the immediate aftermath of a defeat some of us let our frustrations out and vent a bit but then within a day we are back to being supportive and as positive as we can. It's only natural.

Probably exactly the same way Mona is after a defeat.

Mona wrote on her page:

18.6.: I lost again, while making more points than my opponent. In Tennis this sometimes happens, I had it already several times this year. I have to stop with this....

What Mona needs is more games - or better a tiny bit of consistency.

Unfortunately, I can only see her mental situation getting worse and worse...

After the 2nd set 6:1 we could be pretty sure that would happen exactly what happened in the 3rd.

Is it just a problem of being able to stay focussed? Or isn't it rather some non-conscient form of self-destruction? Oh, I forgot, she says she has to work on some minor topics only....

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2

I saw her today walking alone through the tournamentvillage.

I wanted to ask her for picture but I didn't we walked in opposite directions so when I turned around she was already far behind.

She has beautiful body, she looked pretty. Very happy I saw her IRL!

If you look at the statistics of Mona's match against Garbine you can see that she played a decent match, especially in the first two sets. She was even up by 3 in total points, but still lost the match. So she plays the decisive points poorly at the moment, in contrast to the beginning of the season.

I don't know if she suffers from a fundamental psychological problem, as you question in your post, but my impression is that Mona is a player who heavily depends on her confidence (more than other players). And similar to last year, she ran out of confidence after some disappointing losses and she barely seems to be able to find her way back when this happens. She also has to learn to handle disappointments better, especially during a match.

Let's hope for a turnaround at Wimbly, but we shouldn't expect it.

Ask her next time, she is very nice and friendly to fans. So don't choke!

Thats where she needs a coach or therapist to keep her belief. Even after second set she needs coach to go and tell her to keep breathing properly.
