Keys hit 12 aces today and saved a lot of breakpoints against Hampton. I am curious to see how Mona will handle this huge weapon of her next opponent, especially on grass. Mona only won 43% of the points on Dolonc's second serve, so she has to improve in this department until thursday. But hopefully she will serve very well herself.
Well she got through the first round despite a lot of shakiness.
Keys has a big game but as her ranking suggests she is enormously unreliable. I watched her lose badly in Auckland qualifying this year to Kumkhum, who seemed to have little difficulty with her serve and thus dismantled her. I didn't feel much mental strength coming from Madison's side in that match. She started leaking errors and her own return of serve wasn't that good. Admittedly the Thai girl played really well on that day, hardly missing her flat groundstrokes.
I don't really expect Keys to have two good matches in a row- at least I've never seen her have two good matches in a row- so I think Mona should take this, but of course we don't know for sure.
Mona's 1st serve is no longer a weapon. Such a shame.
