What I find interesting about tennis is that it seems to have something for anybody.
We have all kind of people from different countries, with different opinions and different stages of life in Mona`s threads.

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2
Solid win. But Angie wasn't playing good.

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2
She did what she had to do. It's important that she doesn't get overconfident now and isn't surprised or disappointed when one good shot in a rallye isn't enough. I hope she at least calls her/the coach to get some perspective, her mother's coaching between sets was enough to make me already fear the worst.

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2
Well, a great result but Angie's tennis relies heavily on her physical fitness and that wasn't at 100% today.
Mona is starting to reach a new level now though.
What was her mum saying to her? Just encouragement? I thought she had a new coach?
I only woke up in time to see the last game so I don't know exactly how the match went, but the scoreline makes certain things obvious. Was Angie less than 100% physically from the very start?

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2
her new coach will join her at IndianWells/Miami again
we don´t know if he will become her full-time coach then
her mother reminded Mona on her last match as she lost to Kerber in 3 sets
her coach did such a great job in Paris, with encourage her and giving some technically and tactically advise, but her mother mostly praise more the opponents and tell her to stay focused

Re: Mona Barthel - Volume 2
I have to say, she's in the better half of the draw . I think she can beat Wozniacki the way she played tonight. Radwanska is also beatable for her if she can maintain her form.
But maybe I'm just overoptimistic...

Angie was definitely not okay. I can`t tell you the percentage number, but she was weaker in everything as we know her. It was easy cooking for Mona. Her first dserve percentage was about 70%, you know what that means, she was playing pretty good.
A player who usually has a slower pace in his game would probably have had more problems with Angie on this day but not Mona who didn`t let distract herself of Angie`s obvious bad shape.
Her Mum told her the usual emotional stuff and for some reasons remembered her at her loss at Copenhagen.
Her tactical advice this time was in about "to play pacy or slow balls and not the pace that Angie likes".
Means to mix it up, I guess.
