Solid? by contrast, yes, but both girls would have been eaten alive by a decent defensive player today. Awful stuff from arguably the two leading youngsters.

Robson's footwork round the ball is still god awful. It doesn't matter how good a ball striker you are if you aren't in position to hit the ball you will miss.
Stephens is basically just a steady player that is neither fast enough or hits the ball hard enough to ever be a true top player. But a career floating around the #20 mark beckons, which is nothing too shabby.

Sloane didn't send Laura anyway. Laura sent herself to Melbourne with her lack of ability to put away any short balls and couldnt take opportunities when they were just sitting there.
Nice win for Sloane though, good luck in the next rounds.

I didn't think it was that bad. Sloane made some good defensive gets and served well while Robson also hit some beautiful shots. I think because Robson lost you're trying to make it sound worse than it was.

Her mentality was fine. No matter how shit she was, she didn't give up and stayed in the match if nothing else. It's the fact that she was missing easy shots, and taking stupid risks that got her. She tried to go down the line time after time but each time she did the wind took it out. And a lot of the time, she didn't need to play it so close.
God damn she's frustrating.

No surprise, Robson is so insanely overrated...and all because she beat Kim on her way out.

She was being overrated 4 years before then. And if an "insanely overrated" player who was playing terribly most of the time had a close match with Stephens, what does that say about her?

Sponsors ripping up their contracts after seeing her play don't count.

Her mentality was absolutely not fine, particularly in comparison to her OG or USO efforts. I could not keep track of the number of times that she made a wild error on a crucial point or let her frustration get in the way of her concentration.
