Serena plays well in heat. Kerber seems to do well too. Li is a home player. Petra probably won't play so well. Sharapova is hit and miss. Errani, meh. Stosur probably doesn't play her best in heat. Caroline forget going very far the way she's playing now let alone in 40C.

There better not be any 40C+ days to come. Seems like it has cooled down, and it isn't expected to go over 35C for the next week, with most days under 30C.
Yesterday was disgusting with the northerly winds and the heat. Can't imagine playing or watching tennis in that.
Recall Svetlana owning Serena before they unfairly decided to shut the roof. I wouldn't say she was handling the conditions too well.
Temperatures differ from year to year. Serena may have been in one of those extremely hot years.
I remember MashaS struggling real bad with it one year @ AO. It was that year she was pushed to 3 sets by Pin.
The Aussie makes a great point. Fans will be immensely effected by it. The players have to practice outside. 30C is harsh. I've heard 50C (122F) this year summer (SBS Radio). Not sure about Melbourne though...
So very odd to see Hobart having a much hotter day than the rest of Australia. Hobart is like the Alaska of Australia. I mean yesterday was the hottest day in Hobart in like 130 something years. So weird to go from 22-23C to 41-42C in a few days.
There is a difference between hot temperatures and a heat wave. A real heat wave hasn't happened yet (not for a few years), this comes from northerly winds (if you live in Vic) and the shade doesn't help at all because the whole atmosphere is hot. If you actually go outside during a heat wave, you won't be able to breathe properly yet alone play a tennis match.
They can close the roof so top players shouldn't be too effected. Serena,Maria and Vika will play all their matches on the biggest courts. Petra might be a goner with her asthma.
I'm sure the roof will be used a lot, but these hot conditions really separate the true competitors from the pretenders. It's gonna be interesting to see who can handle it.
Isn't Petra's asthma agitated by humidity, rather than just heat? Brisbane is much more humid than Melbourne, we normally have hotter and drier conditions.
