Re: 2013 Cheering/Farewell/Hasta La Vista Thread

Can anyone tell me why was Gabriel Urpi in Alize Cornet's box today in the Rod Laver Arena?
Flavia is training in Barcelona. Why is he in Melbourne? Why not with Flavia?

As far as I know he's not Flavia's coach anymore. Since September of last year actually.
Not sure about the new coach...

He's now working with the French Fed Cup team.

Former coach of Robredo and Ferrero, apparently.

Re: 2013 Cheering/Farewell/Hasta La Vista Thread

Oh yes I found this:
"A former top-ranked doubles player and Top 10 singles player, Pennetta was beset with injuries in 2012. She also told the newspaper that she has split from longtime coach Gabriel Urpi and will begin to work with Karim Perona and Salva Navarra, who once worked with Juan Carlos Ferrero and Tommy Robredo."

But they were such a good team with Urpi

Re: 2013 Cheering/Farewell/Hasta La Vista Thread

Well it's surprising to see her with a new coach so late in her career. But maybe this is just what she needs, some fresh air. She has said she wants to come back stronger than ever, so we'll see.

Do you guys think this is her last year BTW?

She should play the MM YEC since she is not good enough needed for Fed Cup and hawing returning to the MM tour

Re: 2013 Cheering/Farewell/Hasta La Vista Thread

If she doesn't win a MM to earn her place she can get a wild card by sleeping with the tournament director like Ivanovic and Hantuchova.

but you are right and she deserves to go there after having been robbed of that place a couple times
