Now I'm looking forward to see what she can do in the clay season. Although I don't think she'll be in contention for any big titles I'm sure she'll do better than last year and move closer to get back into the top 5 where she belongs.
I think her level is about the same as it was last year. But even if you're right and she has improved a little bit, she's still a long way from top five level. Serena, Maria, Vika, Aga and Na - all those players have done better than Caro for quite some time now including the first three months of 2013. In a best case scenario I can see her (narrowly) making the YEC and perhaps overtaking Kvitova and/or Kerber if they also continue to struggle. But in her current form I can't see her getting back into the top five. It would take her 2010/2011 form to do that.

I suspect that part of the problem is that Caroline doesn't really believe that she can be a Top 3 player again and,for now,is content with being a fringe Top 10 gal...and she's not getting ANY answers from her dad right now on how she could reach that former level...so,to play devil's advocate, why should Caroline make that often-intense sacrifice that elite players make if it's only going to be in vain??Poster MIAH predicts that Piotr will step down at year's end if Caro continues to hit 'the YEC-level wall'.I suppose that's possible but I haven't seen any indicators of that....As long as Caro and her team do the same THINGS,they'll achieve pretty much the same RESULTS
I'm not a specialist or a coach or something, but I think that Caroline's problems are more technical than tactical. Like, you sometimes see her coming into the net at the right time, but then she misses an easy volley or overhead. Or take that loopy forehand of hers that so often ends up in the middle of the court. I've heard Sam Smith say several times that her forehand can be easily fixed. Change the grip a little and step into the ball instead of falling back on the stroke. Those things are not that hard to fix according to Sam. If that's true, and Sam Smith is an analyst that I respect much more than almost any other, than the big question is, "does Piotr have enough know-how to work on those things." I'm sure that he's capable from a tactical perspective. He knows his daughters' strenghts and weaknesses, knows what game plan works for her against which opponent, and so on. But can he really help Caroline with her actual stroke production?

Piotr never has and probably never will be Caro's technical trainer. They have always, since her early junior days, hired external trainers for help with such matter.

He helps her mentally, with strategy and game plane and organizes things.

Currently she trains with the APDP team. If it was an easy to solve technical problem, I am sure, they would be able to (or maybe they are trying).

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

Lets face it, Caro's dropoff was stunning. She was #1 seed at 6 majors in a row, then won only 2 matches the next 3 majors.
She hasnt won a match on a slam centre court in over a year.

Her dad & that whole adidas team have to be partially to blame.
It was obvious she was making too many forehand errors, and thats her weaker side. Did Caro or any of those coaches really think that suddenly those forehands were going to start consistently hitting the lines?

Its a career being thrown away by incompetence. By all of them.
Then she finally has great luck where the high seeds in her half both withdraw & she gets a walkover QF at a mandatory, and a slumping player in the SF, who also got a QF w/o.
And what happens next? She gets blown out in Miami 2nd match, starting down 1-5?

Why is she not ready to play her matches? How much incompetence is going on there? Or is the bottom line that Caro just doesnt care anymore? How is she down 16 15 to Kanepi at a major?

To me, thats what the rest of this year is about - how much does Caro want to have a good career?
By now there's no excuse not to focus from the start at these Tier I's & majors

totally agree on that...moreover she's done well in Charleston in the past and a couple of solid results here could give her the right confidence to face the real-clay season

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

The problem with Caro's confidence is it just simply seems shot to pieces. Anytime there has been an upturn, something which should give a big boost of confidence, she never seems to build on it, it's followed quickly by disappointment.

Caro doing well on green clay generally hasn't translated that much in the past to doing well on red clay.

that's very true, but I think that coming to red clay (indoor first, which is even faster than green clay, Madrid clay which is even faster and only later in Rome -where the clay is still quite fast if it's not raining) after a few wins on the dirt and some match practice with sliding and such is still better than running behind Rory for a week, practicing halftime with some random coaches in Monaco or whatever else

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

Caro has become an inconsistent player and can no longer produce good tennis on a fairly regular basis. She and her team need to figure out why she can hit good shots some days but a lot of other days her shots suck.

so she shouldn't play on green clay because she might play bad since she's inconsistent...makes sense

It is all about she lost her focus on tennis. My opinion.

No, it was a general comment about Caro and didn't have anything to do with green clay.

You may very well be right about technical vs. tactical, but you've re-iterated my suspicion that Piotr has NO real answers for Caroline right now.According to Burisleif,APDP isn't supposed to be for any intense coaching, either.Apparently, they merely give you a chance to practice,at good facilities, whatever you've been working on.I've never heard ANY testimonies from players who stated that APDP helped them break out of a slump.Caro's slutty teammate seemed to get most of her input from APDP after her inicial, shameful fall from the top,and look how little difference THAT made.

I'd still like to go back to green vs. red clay in the U.S. and find out, from anyone who knows, why the pinche gringos simply can't bring in and install a thicker, safer layer of red clay that doesn't yield as many injuries.Unless I'm mistaken, the Germans installed red clay indoors at Stuttgart,so I don't see why they couldn't do the same in the U.S.
