I don't know if I want to attribute that much to motivation. Caro being motivated to succeed doesn't make technical problems or matchup issues just go away.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

Indeed,a sports counsellor isn't necessarily the solution in Caro's case,IMO,because she doesn't appear to be suffering from any psychologically unsound thought patterns. With Caro, the biggest recent problem has been lack of adequate desire, and I don't like the odds on a counsellor changing that. When someone doesn't care about something,it's quite difficult to persuade or MAKE them care

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

Caro won't be playing before Saturday at the earliest, so she has time to get un-jetlagged.
It's an ok draw. Probably would have been easier with Kerber in her quarter, considering the German's recent back problems. Will this be the tournament where Caro finally plays Vika again? This was where they last played, two years ago (Vika retired with an injury). It was also where Caro last won a tournament above Premier level.

Wozilroy are becoming a big thing from a tabloid point of view: predicting a couple's break-up every few weeks is a sort of stamp of approval from the tabloids (they've been predicting Brangelina's break-up the last 6-7 years, so far with no succes).

Huh. Based on the last year or so, where she had several chances to play Azarenka but failed to advance, we can probably assume that Caroline will not be making it as far as the quarter-final.

I'm not directing this at you but I find it odd when people comment about Maria's draws (which happens fairly often). Typically the higher ranked players have "easier" draws. Caroline benefited from "easy" draws fairly often when she was number one. Also, there are only a small handful of players (Serena and Victoria) that are currently troubling Maria. With their current ranking the only places Maria can possibly meet either of them is in the semis or the final. Of course upsets happen but in general Maria does not lose to players ranked below her so aren't all of her draws, regardless of who she has to play in the early rounds, "easy?"

You also need to "blame" the players ranked 5-8. Often they lose early which prevents Maria from facing more top ten players. That is hardly Maria's fault just like it wasn't Caroline's fault when high ranked players lost early and gave her "easy" draws.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

She'll need it although the draw looks alright for her. I agree that draws of top 4 are really easy but surprises can happen so maybe we'll have some upset. Which I'd welcome as it would be interesting to see different people in later stages of the tournament.

Or anyone else of the top 4 seeds than Vika for that matter. There's a reason, why Vika is #1 seed .. so likely QF is the best Caro can make, but that would than be ok, imho.

When she lost to Pervak after being up a set, I was thinking- maybe she doesnt want to lose a onesided match to Vika.
I understand Caro has technical flaws, but she always had them.
There's something going on mentally where she is too satisfied with going from a young superstar to a Jankovic situation, where she is irrelevant in discussions of who is going to win majors.
Wouldnt all of you be desperate by now, trying to save your career?
If she plays like Dubai, she should get to Vika.
If she doesnt, I think she has to start thinking about dealing specifically with mental issues that might be ruining her career

I understand top seeds get easier draws, normally, and I'm not one to complain too often about draws because at the end of the day it doesn't matter if you are playing well. However, there are always a few players that bother some top players, and I don't mean players in the top 10, there is always one, two or three players ranked around 20-50ish that do well against some of the top10. We have a few examples with Cetkovska against Aga or Caro vs Goerges. Then you have players who have a good/decent record against top players or have started the year pretty well, see Sveta vs Maria, Robson beating Petra, Stephens, Barthel... So when a top player avoids all the "hot/tricky" players plus gets the easiest player in top 10, Errani, on her side of the draw I think it's normal and not odd, at all, that people make comments about it.

I guess that it is mostly a GM trend. There always seems to be someone complaining about Maria's cakewalk draws. Admittedly, I haven't spent any time comparing them but I don't think that Maria's recent draws are dramatically different/easier than the draws that Serena/Victoria/Agnieszka are having.

Maybe this isn't quite what you were talking about when you mentioned "hot/tricky" players but Maria did have the misfortune of running into Sabine Lisicki in the fourth round of Wimbledon last year. On any other surface Maria would have to be considered the heavy favourite but she got Lisicki on grass and lost. She also played Sabine a month later at the Olympics (on grass) and won a fairly tough three set match.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

Caro really has to make at least QF here, if she doesn't she has big problems in the context of her season. Things are unlikely to get any easier in Miami. Istanbul will again look in doubt if she doesn't post decent results in Indian Wells and Miami.
