I must admit, I too have allowed myself to be optimistic about that endeavour.

The Doha/Dubai form should just be enough to slip into top 8.

It's always nice to be optimistic and I'm just about to say the same. But let her win Kuala Lumpur which will be her admission card for Sofia - then I'll be optimistic too because she's played some really good matches.

BTW have you heard that Marion Bartoli has hired Amelie Mauresmo to be her coach and will aso work with Mauresmo's former trainer Xavier Moreau in a bid to become fitter and aim to win a grand slam singles title. That's why we didn't see her father in Doha or Dubai.

Does anyone know where Caroline is in the race now? I'd assume around 12/13 now?

According to the updated rankings,Caroline is 15th...but a mere 200pts. behind Sveta for #8.Aside from this year's elite early performers, there's very little separation amongst the higher ranks so far

Correction--Caro is actually #11 but,as stated above, she's only 200 pts. from 8th.I had to go to pdf cuz the supposedly current rankings hadn't been updated

I heard about that on GM. My first instinct was that it was an odd pairing because of their contrasting gamestyles (though how many people play like Marion anyway) but if it works for Marion, then great!

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

You all shouldn't feel guilty or dumb for picturing Caroline in the YEC;she finished 11th last year and missed being an alternate by just one spot--and it was a very unremarkable season by Caroline's standards.

Think about it: Would it really be so amazing for Caroline to outperform Kerber,Stosur and Errani over the course of this season??Not to ME,it wouldn't...and if Caro merely leapfrogged those 3 players, she could very easily do no worse than 8th in the YEC standings. It would be preferable if she didn't just barely qualify, but that's a heckuva lot better than just barely MISSING,as she did in 2012

Yes,let's wait and see how things are going in KL first. If she wins the title it would be good for her confidence for the upcoming big events in the US.

It's the events like these that will really make a difference though. Right now she's in a good position to catch up with the best 8.

I was really surprised about her decision to leave her dad as a coach. I mean, she's been with him all her career and she does this now?
Anyone else thinks that this decision could be influenced by the talk in the media which rather condemns having parent as a coach?

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

Regarding the YEC, if you look at the "regular" rankings Caroline surely has a great chance to pass Sam in the next month or so and, depending on her injuries/form, Angelique is also looking like she may slip out of the top eight. Of course by the end of the year there will almost certainly be other players fighting for those two spots but in the near future those are the two players that I think Caroline has the best chance of passing.

Oops, I forgot about Sara. She did better than expected making the Dubai final but she has an awful lot to defend in the clay season and she will not be able to play a lot of the international level events she won last year. Also, it seems unlikely she will repeat her runs at Roland Garros and Flushing Meadows. It may take a while but if Caroline maintains her Doha/Dubai level she surely has a great chance of passing Sara too.

^ Re regular ranking, I think it's not too optimistic to expect Caro be top 8 when time comes for USO seeding.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

Besides being a YEC player, another attainable goal is to have a deep run or 2 at a major this year.
Caroline has lost 5 of her last 10 matches at majors.
What I liked about Dubai is that she didnt have a terrible 1st set, even though she lost 1st sets to Bartoli & Kvitova, she was competing well.
I would say up to the last 2 points vs Petra she was mentally into it.
Against Petra, you have to hang in there because she can fall off during a match. I think if it got to 5-all in set 2, that match was still very winnable. Just needed Petra to miss a shot or 2 and get discouraged.

Definately her best mental effort of 2013 so far, I think she plays that way at IW/Miami, she will go deep in her draws.
And she needs to fight for every point at majors. That used to be a given, and she has to get that intensity back in big tournaments. Its been 2 full years, IW 2011, since Caroline was in a final of a Premier 5, Mandatory or slam. Errani & Aga are getting there, so its not some impossible dream

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 6

Unless the money is huge, she should only play Intl's indoors. Weather in KL this week is rain & very hot. You dont want to play 2 matches in one day at this kind of event. Asking for trouble
