Re: Fed Cup 2013
Imo, Bacsisnzky, Voegele and Sadikovic would all be committed. Not sure about Oprandi though. Imo, they would pick Bencic like always.

Re: Fed Cup 2013
I have the feeling it's going to come down more to how our girls play. At her best, Jarka should be able to beat all of these girls, but even though she's regained a bit of form and confidence lately she's still well below her best atm. And there's the added pressure of her having to win both her singles to give the team a fighting chance. Hard to say how she'll handle that.
And even if Jarka does get 2 wins, the third point could prove hard to come by, no matter who's in the Swiss team.

Good decision imo. Even though I can understand both sides of the argument, if the priority is winning the tie I think playing in Switzerland is the better option.
... there are claycourts in Switzerland, right?

Re: Fed Cup 2013
Very good decision.
Sam will surely play now, so I'd fancy their chances whatever the surface (although with Sam's up and down form this year (more down than up so far ) you never know). Better for all concerned if they play on clay though, and I think they probably will.
Edit: clay it is then

Re: Fed Cup 2013
The ITF announced that Swiss Tennis will host the 2013 Fed Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-off tie between Switzerland and Australia on 20-21 April. The tie will be held outdoors on clay at the Tennis Club Chiasso in Chiasso in southern Switzerland. The venue is subject to a successful site visit by the ITF.
Tennis Australia was originally awarded choice of ground, but the Fed Cup Committee has approved a proposal by the two nations to move the tie to Switzerland. As part of the agreement, Australia will now have choice of ground on the next two occasions Australia and Switzerland meet in Fed Cup. The winner of the tie will qualify for the 2014 Fed Cup World Group, while the loser will contest 2014 World Group II.

Not naive, good call in the end
Big call, we'll see how it pans out. Atleast it guarantees Sam's participation which gives us favourtism.

Re: Fed Cup 2013
I wonder who Alicia will select this time
Apparently Jarka hasn't been feeling good since Fed Cup..

Shows in her results she will still go with Jarka I think. Casey never plays well in singles at Fed Cup & Ash not doing too great on the clay.

Re: Fed Cup 2013
Assuming Sam wins both her singles (not a sure thing, but fairly likely) the 3rd point could be hard to come by.
There really is no obvious choice for the second singles player. Jarka usually lifts her game for FC, but she's a mess atm, and hasn't got a great record against the Swiss anyway. But you wouldn't want to bet your house on either Casey or Ash winning a singles rubber either.
The best hope might be that Casey and Ash can pull off the doubles, but if the tie goes down to the wire that puts a lot of pressure on them.
