Junior Miranda Frost surprises in Florianopolis


The Swedish beauty is considered as a future star


In the first ever tournament in Brazil the current junior number 1 Miranda Frost caused a surprise in first round as she battled past Amelie Szczotka-Strozna with 2:6 7:5 7:6(5). It is already the third FWTT quarterfinal for one of the most promising juniors on tour, the other two were in her home event Bastad.

Q: Congrats Miranda for this great victory. How did you prepare for this match?
Miranda: I have won my last two titles on junior tour and came here with alot of self confidence. I have proven in the past that I can beat senior players if I play at my best and thus believed in my chances. Even when I failed to serve it out at *6:5 in third set I kept on fighting for every point in the tiebreak and got rewarded.

Q: You knew her from her junior times. There was a friendly hug after the match.
Miranda: Yes, back in 2011 we even won a junior doubles title together. It's nice to meet players you know here and have a talk with them.

Q: You are playing very successfully on the junior tour, reached 3 Grand Slam finals already and are the current junior number 1 in singles and doubles. What are you expecting from the senior tour?
Miranda: I am actually expecting the transition from junior tour to senior tour to be quite tough. I have followed Xhaka's results a bit which confirms this. But we will see how it goes.

Q: Are you prepared for the bitchyness of the senior tour? Does that scare you as a junior?
Miranda: Not at all. At Wimbledon last year there were two players laughing me off "Good luck junior by collecting your baggles and breadsticks" and " Fuck off Ikea baby" but you have to deal with these remarks.

Q: What about Mira Hellström who described you as an old snob?
Miranda: Mira is special indeed.

Q: I see. Back to Florianopolis. You are now facing the top seeded player in quarterfinals. How do you see your chances to reach the semifinals?
Miranda: That will be a tough match as she's in great shape at the moment, she has won Dubai last week. But I have nothing to lose and will fight for every point again.
