NCAA Tournament Eligibility Watchlist

Decided to start a thread to track teams that are in danger of missing NCAAs by not reaching .500 winning percentage.

This has been discussed significantly in the SEC thread, but I thought this deserved it's own topic considering the large number of perennial NCAA teams that are "on the bubble" because of this new rule and the lengths some teams [led by trailblazers Ole Miss] are going to get over the hump.

Re: NCAA Tournament Eligibility Watchlist

This double header practice of padding your record by playing the same team twice in one day is

Do Jackson St., Southern Miss & Tennessee St. enjoy being punching bags?

Why would they even agree to get their butts kicked a 2nd time in the same day?

In the 2nd match are these patsy teams going to insert their bench and walk-ons just to give everybody a chance to play against the BCS school?

You would think these teams are getting a financial guarantee of some kind. I'm sure they at least are getting their expenses.

Either that or getting home matches against teams that wouldn't have played them at home in a million years.

Updated the OP after mid-week results.

GT and St. Mary's get big wins to significantly boost their chances, while Baylor's loss to TCU puts them in serious jeopardy.

I don't like the .500 percentage rule at all, credit to USD and Pepperdine to schedule all those tough matches.
Computer won't reflect Pepperdine's near upset of UCLA, for example..

Who, or what type of teams benefit from this rule? I suppose the team who would have ended last team out without this rule, but it seems to create weird scheduling incentives.

Re: NCAA Tournament Eligibility Watchlist

Alex Clay was 11-8 at the 4 last year for alabama. She must be hurt, although she plays doubles. One would think if she wasn't hurt she could hold down the 6 if nothing else in a weaker conference

Tennessee added a match vs Historically black college Prairieview A&M on their way to Texas A&M. Prairieview has a top 25 schedule this year

Re: NCAA Tournament Eligibility Watchlist

Now teams are starting to cancel matches to avoid finishing under sub 0.500.

#46 Georgia State who is 6-8 overall has canceled 2 matches they could lose in at Louisville and vs North Texas. The only explanation given was a schedule of conflict.

I don't understand how this is being allowed. We see teams that are devastated with injuries that can only send out 4 players and have to forfeit 2 singles & 1 doubles but still have to play the match.

Re: NCAA Tournament Eligibility Watchlist

Last year the equally slimy VCU team did the same thing to UNLV and Fresno State. The latter two appealed to the ITA and VCU was given and loss against each even though the marches were never played. I would not be surprised to see UNT and Louisville appeal and win on the same basis.
