Very rare. Of late, USO11 1st set Kirilenko vs. Stosur comes to mind.

I actually think this happens a lot against Rena. Some players play peak, but still can't beat her.

from Sharapova's losses probably her loss to Henin was at her peak in WTa Championships 2007

I agree. Victoria is such an awful match up for Sam, she had to play her very best to even make it that close.

Re: Players playing at their peak and still losing the match
Not her *absolute* peak, but Maria was very near her best in that YEC final against Justine in 2007. I'd put it in Maria's top 20 matches, and certainly the best match from her side that she ever lost.
As others have said, Dementieva in the Wimbledon semifinal is an obvious one.
Venus's best hardcourt matches after 2003 were both matches that she lost (her US Open semifinals against Henin and Clijsters).
Azarenka in the Stuttgart final

A)I don't troll and don't have a record of doing it
B))From my opinion Sharapova was playing great tennis during the Olympics, and in the final she was playing well, and was giving it her all. Just cause she's your favorite doesn't mean you can't admit the truth.
I at least know Serena was giving it her all against Justine in '03 French Open & still got her butt beat by Justine at the French Open.
