Okay, so that's
This post gave me a great idea
Why not go all the way and make another thread
So during my Kantian walk
thought about a suitable topic.
At first thought a poll about the merit and demerit of nationalism could be fun, but eventually settled on a broader theme, hence this.
What caused all the misery and conflicts of mankind?
Men!!!(their inherently aggressive instinct to wage wars)
Lack of resources(oil, water, etc)
Monotheism, we know how Christianity and Islam led to countless sufferings. I think Holocuast can be included in this category as well. Or racism, either way.
Capitalism essentially bred Socialism and Communism, so thought just listing Capitalism would be fine. Widening income gap is now a serious problem globally.
I'm not sure about Imperialism(colonialism): should I make it separate or is it also a byproduct of capitalism.
Nationalism, our dear comrade azdaja argued that Serb nationalism is good in the WWI thread. But is it? Didn't nationalism essentially led to the war: think about pan germanism and slavism. And all the conflicts thereafter.
Nation could now harness considerable population in waging total war: no wonder world war 1 and 2 was the biggest conflict ever, lasting a long time despite the prediction that due to bankruptcy it would end soon.
And vide the countless Hollywood movies about alien invasion: it enabled all the nations to overcome their national conflict and strive for the common good: survival of mankind. Isn't it an indirect indictment of national conflict
Jacques Barzun argues in his book 'Darwin, Marx and Wagner' that darwinism, marxism, wagnerism are essentially dangerous materialism that led to conflicts in the 20th century.
We all know Spanish influenza killed more than WWI itself.
Contacts itself with the Europeans wiped the Americans out. Maybe European men's horniness contributed to it(sexual contact with native women)
Mutiple choices this time, and feel free to post your opinions. Just curious about what you guys think, and if we can educate each other, all the better.
And be nice
