Re: your favorite classic movies?

bump.

browsed the threads and there seems none on classic movies, so changed the title.

My favorite silent movie would be 'General' by Keaton,
and sound movie would be Lubitsch's 'The Shop around the corner'
for thriller, probably 'Shadow of a Doubt' by Hitchcock?
for noir, difficult to top 'Double Indemnity'. also like 'Laura'
for drama love 'House of Strangers'
for musical 'Singin' in the Rain', but also love 'Swing Time', 'Top Hat' like Rogers/Astaire series, and of course Busby Berkley's extravaganza Judy Garland's are fine too.

favorite directors would be Lubitsch, Kazan, Wilder, Sturges, Edwards

favorite Actress would be of course Margaret Sullavan, and for sheer beauty Liz Taylor in her prime was just stunning. Love Jean Peters too. Gene Tierney in her prime was stunning as well. love all classic actresses who did comedy very well, such as Jean Arthur, Ginger Rogers, Carole Lombard (she was stunning, too)..

Re: your favorite classic movies?

I watched the Jolson Story today. It was okay but I wouldn't be putting it on a favourite list. It needed some more stars in it or something! I agree with Postman and All about Eve (of course you know I love Bette Davis) and I love the classic Astaire/Rogers movies from the 30s. I should try and find that post somewhere that had all my favourite movies in it.

Re: your favorite classic movies?

On that list adore Rear Window. Night of the Hunter is great too. It's tragic that because of the poor reception to that film at the time, Charles Laughton never directed another film.

I'd add movies like Twelve Angry Men, Failsafe, Seven Days in May...all I admit films with a liberal viewpoint!

I liked Jolson Story, mainly for the songs

For Davis I would recommend 'The Man who came to Dinner' like 'Garbo Laughs!' Drama actress Davis plays in Comedy!

you do that, I'm interested I'm sure a lot of it are Davis' movies, though
