Funny how neither of those girls as well as the two finalists of the AO WC playoff weren't actually born in Australia.

...what? They would never have even come close to getting them had they not switched their nationalities.

They weren't even grown up in Australia like the Tomics for example.

Tomljanovic's sudden aussie citizenship is so pathetic.

The insult about Tomjlanovic and the Russians is well deserved,

Gajdosova on the other hand had a long association with Australia unlike the others, living in Australia since she was 15 or 16.

It wasn't an insult by any means. I think it's OK for players to switch nationalities (though I have my reserves on the Sacha Jones case and Kazakhztan) for whatever reason. One doesn't always belong where one is born. However, it is funny how Australian-born players seem to be rare these days considering your country's tennis heritage.

It's a reflection of our times. Times have changed, so things naturally change. Funny or not, it is how it is.

The idea that Australians have to be white, with anglo saxon names, and born in Australia, is outdated.

Tennis is also a far more international sport today than those days when American and Australian players dominated.

If we want to question the "nationality" of players who chose to play for their adopted country, why don't we also question players who chose to play for their original or parents' nations when in fact they have chosen to live away for so long they have little or nothing in common with those countries and their people anymore? The debate should go both ways (Maria hello?).

Anyway happy for Jarka. She's worked really hard on her comeback trail. And smart move by Atom.
