Ivanovic's goals 2013: Top10 and place in WTA Champs
Here, at Punto de Break, Ana told me that her goal for 2013 was to take place in the WTA Championships: http://www.puntodebreak.com/2012/11/...olver-al-top10
Do you think she will get it done?

If you just look at the rankings - she is not. But actually she is nearly a thousand points away from the top 10.

Top ten could happen, though it'd take a big improvement. Championships probably out of her reach unless she could have a huge slam run.

if she gets to be more regular in Grand Slam tournaments, and even meet in one semifinal, could easily opt to enter in WTA Champs.

Well, at least she has tennis goals, unlike her Serbian sister

She's very capable of achieving those goals. She has a good game and work ethic so she can make the improvements necessary to get to that next round of the bigger tournaments.

well, at least her plans seem a little more realistic, unlike previous years, where she was aiming a GS title or nothing. one step at a time. everyone knows she is a top ten material, she just needs to be more consistent.

It's doable, but she's gonna need to stop losing in the third round of premier events and she's gonna need at least one big slam result next year.

She was consistent. That´s why she is back in the top 15. To be top 10 you need to be performing at a higher level at some events to gain big chunks of points.

That's probably Sears' influence. She seems to be a lot more level-headed when talking about her tennis nowadays.

Re: Ivanovic's goals 2013: Top10 and place in WTA Champs
It's possible to get to the top 10 but she needs to have a good run at slams and/or a win or final at a few premier events to have a shot at Istanbul.

Re: Ivanovic's goals 2013: Top10 and place in WTA Champs
There are probably four or five players out there who barring ill health are virtually certain to make the YEC and maybe six or seven plus the unexpected one who'll surprise everyone (there's always one in most years) to do battle for the remaining three spots. Ana is one of them, so it will be difficult, but she has a chance. Same for getting back into the top ten really, but there her odds are a bit better because of the two extra spots. To do it she'll have to have a great run at one of the slams and/or do well in the premier mandatory and premmier5 events, but she's so close that it's almost inevitable that things will fall into place for her sooner or later. She just has to really believe that she can do it. Her win over Kvitova at the Fed cup might help her a bit, but unfortunately for her by the time the 2013 season gets going the beneficial effects she might have gotten from that may already be gone. Still, Ivanovic fans have reason to be optimistic I think.
