I completely agree. 2 whole years of farewell tours (one for her first retirement, one of her second) and exhibitions is just way over the top and . Atleast Wimbledon knew the deal and relegated her last match to an outside court.

It's in Belgium, where she is a national treasure. The fact that they needed the largest venue available for a tennis exhibition match shows how much she is loved in her home country. It's not over the top, it's exactly right and fitting for her status in Belgium.

Please don't even talk of Wimbledon like its this amazing thing. I love how people still think its the biggest tennis tournament in the world... yeah maybe when tennis was played 90% on grass but now since grass is the surface least played on... Wimbledon is a relic that simply uses "tradition" to try to portray itself as the most important tournament. Frankly it's not in my opinion and if I was a player I'd say the same shit.

Kim wanted to have a farewell match, let her, how does it bother or disturb your life? Oh it doesn't... I forgot.

It's not just "people" who think that, it's top players.

So let the "top" players think what they want. It's all opinions... you have one, I have one. I just think Wimbledon is overrated... it was the most important tournament in the world when most tennis was on grass now that it's not... in my opinion Wimbledon isn't the most important. And don't say oh because its been around so long, the US Open is only a few years younger, so age isn't really a factor.

Anyway, you can believe what you want and I will believe what I want... its why we have opinions.

Well, up to and including the 1970's Wimbledon was indeed the most important tournament with the USO not far behind. The FO was third and the AO a very distant fourth. If anything, in the 1970's the YEC was even more prestigious than the FO and the AO for awhile. But since then the gap between the four slams has slowly closed between the four up to a point where in recent decades they are all more or less equal. If Wimbledon is still the most prestigious of them, it's only by a very small margin. The fact that it's on grass works both for and against it. It works against it because grass is no longer representative for the tour as a whole. On the other hand, grass is also what still makes Wimbledon a special event. I cringe at the thought that they would ever consider getting rid of it and dump yet another bunch of clay or hardcourts there. Not everything that is a tradition is necessarily a good thing, but having grasscourts at Wimbledon is a tradition they should treasure for as long as tennis is played in my opinion.

Oh I never said having grass at Wimbledon was a bad thing, I'm all for them keeping it grass forever. I'm just tired of people saying its the most important tournament just because its almost like your expected to say that, its an unwritten rule or something.

Wow, Justine is looking good. It's great to see her having a real life after tennis. Many players don't seem able to adjust. Good for her.

Re: Kim Clijsters sets farewell match

People can make fun of Kim's farewell tours all they want but it's no big deal compared to the likes of Seles who announced her retirement 5 years after her last match or Capriati who has yet to make her retirement official. Just saying...

Let them make fun of her as much as they like. The're under no obligation to watch if they have a problem with it.
