I completely thought of a different thing, why I couldn't close out of match, you know, that I had few difficulties."

Where did anyone say she should be defaulted? I turned on ESPN, and Patrick said she didn't break any rules and this goes on in the men's game, too. He even said the rules should be changed.

Matt Cronin @tennisreporters
Quick read of Slam rules, far as I can tell Azarenka could have been defaulted by ref 4 using MTOs 4 non illness/non musculoskeletal injury

Go on twitter. Cronin, Rothenberg off top of head are both touting it. Posting such stuff to their many followers is pretty unprofessional.

I'm not in USA so didn't see that. But I know in UK, the pundits on tv here basically shat on her, and just used it to hurl insults at her (Rusedski and Wade are always getting on Vika's back).

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.

Just read the press transcript, absolutely brutal. Honestly those journlists should be ashamed of themselves, was absolutely disgusting treatment. Whether they agree with the timeout or not they still have a responsibility to act professional and some of those questions were certainly not professional. On the other hand I thought vika handled it very well, showed how much she's grown in press.

Would this be as much of an issue if it happened to any other top player?

Wait, so essentially he's talking as if he was in the rooms with Vika at the time of the MTO, how would he know that it wasn't a 'proper' injury?

In Australia I haven't seen that much of a backlash about it bar the Channel 7 tennis host (the ass Hamish McLaughlan, for any Australian based fan in this thread) trying to stick his nose into it and wailing about things like 'the MTO rule taken into consideration' etc.

I can't believe how much this is being blown out of proportion, where this absolute ZERO proof that she wasn't in a bad way.

I notice that the American press likes to attack any non American player who dares to prevent Serena from reaching the top that she allegedly deserves. They did it to Jankovic, Safina, Wozniacki and now Vika. They can't use the "Slamless #1" argument against Vika so they know they have to pounce on anything they can. The irony here is that several years ago the American press used to attack Venus and Serena for various reasons that definitely had racial undercurrents. But I guess they realize that Serena is the only American player who can achieve anything right now so they've decided to make up for years of non appreciation of her by going overboard to the other direction.

And of course they overhype any young American who has achieved any results while ignoring non Americans who are the same age but have already done far more. I mean during Vika's match against Hampton you would think that Hampton was some super future GOAT instead of just an average player playing well above their level. And really if Vika hadn't been so all over the place mentally the match would've been a straight setter.

Consider yourself lucky that you don't have to here this kind of shit every day. It's really frustrating.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.

Reading through it sounds like the typical US Fuss over a better player being "evil" against an American. The only way it could be worse is if shepulled a Justine out there or something.

Sloane earned a lot of points in my eyes for her remarks afterwards. I just wish Vika wasn't so awkwardly nervous with the press.

And only haters wanted her to be defaulted because that's the only way Sloane would have won.

Vika played a near flawless first set, dominating 90% of the rallies and Sloane had no answers. She started the second similarly but in the third game she hurt her ankle running for a ball and spend a bit of time at the back at the court to deal w/ the evident pain. From there on she started shortening the points but she wasn't really in tip top condition and she seemed to be struggling a bit with the heat (35C+ day, probably 40C on court). She got a whole load of match points but wasted them all because she was rushing her shots, hence making errors and she didn't really look comfortable. After Sloane broke Vika had an MTO for about 10 minutes, from what I saw she definitely looked as she was being troubled by something much more than nerves. She came back out and took out the match but I swore she seemed sluggish even after.

First set, Vika played very well and Sloane looked nervous. She also wasn't really hurting Vika in any way. She hits some nice winners but that was it.

Second set at 2-0 Vika pulls up after a point, looking like she pulled something. The commentators all notice this and wondered if she would call the trainer but she doesn't then. Meanwhile Sloane breaks back and Vika's form starts to drop. Sloane's form does rise a bit but she still has trouble holding serve. In fact Sloane held serve just twice in the entire match. At 5-3 Vika has 5 match points and couldn't convert any of them. After she got broken she finally has a MTO, goes off the court to get treatment, then breaks Sloane to win the match.

Re: *Vika Azarenka Cheering Thread* - Vikalume 4.

The doctor was even waiting by the door to come out and treat Vika, but she did not call for him at the change of ends after she twigged her knee. I think she just wanted to wait it out.

Anyway. I hope she is on a 48 hour TOTAL social media and news ban and isn't allowed to read a single thing. She needs to focus on winning this slam. Allez up your fucking ass to all the haters who pounce on her for every little thing.

Well, how would someone know if she really had an injury or was using the MTO to stall? Almost impossible to tell.

Ouch All of this shit is so irrelevant. I can't believe people are making such a big deal out of it. They probably don't have anything better to do.

I just hope Vika can remain calm and focused for the final.

That's exactly it though. There should be some benefit of the doubt. Vika says she had a rib problem, but seemingly the media know better and crucify her for taking a MTO to stall. There have been far more dodgy MTO's over the years that the media hasn't batted an eyelid to.

It's just way too cynical and used in a way to fit the media's agenda. The US are desperate for a new star. They thought Stephens was it when she was shown to be nowhere near ready.

And for some of their top journalists to be posting she should have been defaulted on twitter is disgraceful. It just adds to the pack mentality. Could you imagine the uproar if she was defaulted now? Because yer that would be good for womens tennis .
