Well Vika won. Probably the less said the better, there were some serious lapses in concentration out there. Serve was definitely worse than it was R1 vs Vesnina. The draw to the semi-finals is really open now with Na Li's exit from the tournament today.
Thought she was pretty mediocre before the delay. Then ahe came out much worse after. That sort of technique failure is very un-vika, but in the end she was smart, scaled back the power to about 40%, kept it deep. Hopefully the courts speed up now.

Today was really not a day to play tennis... these rain-delays are really quite annoying and I would bet the one at 5-1 first set kind of threw Victoria off her rhythm (would have to read her post-match interview to see how she addresses that leak).
That said, Victoria will always be due to extraordinary mental lapses on clay so after all this is quite a good performance - Beck is also quite a solid clay-courter, she was really comfortable in these slow humid conditions ; good practice for Victoria.
On a side-note, Victoria really needs learn to move forward on clay much more often and naturally ; rallying ad aeternam to finally miss a poor shot after the 99 000th rally against a player who defends very well on such an extremely slow wet clay doesn't really work all that well... she reproached herself that many times during this match and you can only corroborate with that.
i was literally switching channels on my big screen. the rain delay had so much effect on her, before that it was 3 UE and after that added 11 or more. was lucky enough to stop bleeding and served it out. there were a few bold brave shots on the line that saved her. but those dfs....
that's one area she has to improve on, she gets very impatient when she plays someone new. not expecting their games and easily got frustrated.
Agree... these very slow humid conditions are really not suited for Victoria's game and especially if her opponent has a very good defensive game as Beck... the weather should be better moving on 'they say'.
