Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
I don't think she can play as AUS in ITF, isn't it only at Grand Slams?

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
It is the first time I have seen the "AUS" next to her name at an official competition. She still has the "RUS" in the itf and wta website. We will probably know more soon

But for those three gals any draw looks difficult, but they just need to pull their finger out.
Casey is actually in a good section. If she was to beat Keys, then she could be up against the out-of-form Paszek. Casey had played poorly for the last 6 months apart from a brief patch of form around the US, needs to play smarter and grind points a bit, as opposed to bashing the ball about mindlessly. Ditto for Liv.
Jarka can actually play loose against Yanina, unlike 2 years ago when she was in full flight having won Hobart and put alot of pressure on herself. Ditto for 2012, when she had to recover from her Hopman Cup debacle. I think she's a bit circumspect now, and more importantly seems more mature now.
Bojana - oh well, shit happens. She'll get to experience Hisense Arena or possibly Rod Laver.
Sacha - she's played 2 matches since October..... is that enough
Hopefully Cibulkova is traumatised by her double bagel by Aga and loses the plot. It won't happen and really Im glad Ash is facing tough competition during this stage in her career. Getting a win over some scrub will inflate expectation, and at this stage she still has alot of work to do to be competitive on the tour. Grabbing a set, or even a close set against Domi will be a good achievement for Ash.
What do we say about Sam. The draw is OK if she can get through the 1st and 2nd rounds. Li Na in the 4th is the best we could ask for. But.... its more complicated than this. Lets wish for 35 degree days, play her in Laver cauldron and lets hope her fitness wins out. Don't put her on night please... keep that for Tomic or better still Lleyton so Todd, Bruce and Pat rafter can have their annual wankfest.

Yeah you're right. I guess im just expecting the worse then if someone does win, it will be a pleasant suprise.
Can someone please go on a Jelena Dokic type run here and keep me interested for more than a couple of days!!

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Shocking draws, hopefully Liv draws KumKhum as she's nothing special and could beat her. Jarmila's match is winnable, she won't have pressure like last time, but I think she still has this mental block to get through to win a match at Aust Open, but hopefully she will have a good crack at it and surprise herself! Stosur's match is very winnable, I think Chang will be putting more pressure on herself since she beat her last time and will get a bit tight out there. I reckon Stosur can win this like 6-4 6-3. Boj forget, Dellacqua will get thumped, Barty could be a close first set but doubt she will win. Jones, good draw, it will be close, could go either way.
I'm predicting 2 wins, one being Stosur!

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Arina is fighting back. She was down 2-6 0-2. Maybe even 0-3. She's now up 4-3 with a break in the 2nd. Would be great if she could take it to a 3rd.
And how great if we got a qualifier to the MD!! When did that happen last???

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
GSM Koehler 6-2 4-6 6-1.
Still a good few days for Arina, getting broken at 2-4 from 40-0 up really did her in.
Good results for the Aussie juniors as well considering we had no winner at all last year.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Yep, some encouraging results coming in from Traralgon there so hopefully they can keep it up.
Watched Arina's match, she wasn't hitting as consistently as yesterday and seemed to struggle with the fact that Koehler was a leftie. Her Backhand crosscourt was sitting right up into the hitting zone...used a backhand slice effectively though and looked the better player heading into the third set but lost a few tight games she could of won and let Maria get back on top. Shame as would have been good to see her in the Main Draw.

Ok so Olivia has drawn Dolonc who lost 7 games in all 3 of her Q matches. I actually think we are not going to have any girls in the 2nd round. Has this ever happened?
