Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Obvious choice but good write up
Making the case for a wildcard http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/...056192679.html
Women
Ashleigh Barty: the prodigious 16-year-old shaved her ranking from No.682 to its current mark of No.175 in 2012 The Queenslander won four ITF titles during the past season – most notably the $50,000 event on grass in Nottingham – and contested the main draw at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. Barty gained her passage into the 2012 Australian Open by winning last year’s Play-off as an unseeded 15-year-old, but in the 2013 edition she played an uncharacteristically poor match against eventual champ Bobusic, bundled out in the quarterfinals.
Olivia Rogowsk is another player to show great improvement in the last season, coming within striking distance of the top 100 and reaching her first WTA-level quarterfinal at Kuala Lumpur.
Jarmila Gajdosova, the former world No.25, endured a horror year. After splitting with her coach, suffering a spate of injuries and then losing her mother to cancer, the Victorian ended her season in September, having fallen from world No.33 in January to her current mark of No.184.
Sacha Jones: the New Zealander-turned-Australian slashed her ranking more than 100 places to briefly crack the top 150 in late 2012 (she is currently ranked No.172). Jones went 46-24 throughout the season and reached four ITF finals, winning three.
World No.139 Anastasia Rodionova and Australian Open Play-off finalist Monique Adamczak (also ranked inside the top 200) are other players who could make their case for a discretionary wildcard.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
I think we can all agree that the final 4 WC's will be picked from the 6 names above.
Rogowska is not in good form, barely beating Rajicic and losing to Arina Rodionova again in straight sets this week, but you still have to put her ahead of Jones/Adamczak which should secure her one.
Barty - Hard to see her not getting one, just hope she doesn't lose too much confidence from the battering she will probably take at Hopman Cup.
A-Rod - For me should be a shoe-in for a wildcard, Same for Jarmila but rumour is she's happy to play qualies and illegible anyway!
Jones/Adamczak - I guess TA will flip a coin if Jarmila isn't getting a WC, although you'd slightly favour Jones on age, but then Monique's been ranked higher and returning from injury.

It shall be interesting to see who can perform come Brisbane/Auckland really put their hand up for selection!
Does anyone know if Jones is even in training at the moment, she withdrew from Esperance (and then the rest of the pro tour) because of an inflamation of tendons? in her wrist....really hope she can come out ready to go in Brissy...
I presume Rogowska is now the fave for the other Brissy MD WC? Rodionova's are in Auckland, doubt they will give to Sacha or Monique so that only leaves Bobusic and Liv....

Liv got one last year ranked much lower so I'd say she will get it again. I want to stay positive but my gut tells me this will be a rough summer for her

Rogowska is a shoe in. She is the first Aussie out of the main draw. Her form is not a factor.
I really don't see how Barty will lose confidence in Hopman cup. No one except her to win a match and this is an exhibition
I don't see Jarmilla turning down a WC if she is offered one.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
^ Lamb to the slaughter, could be worse she could've got a main draw one.... ala Emelyn Starr one year.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Yes will be a good trial for Abbie. Hopefully she doesn't face a top 30 player that just missed out on the Sydney cut-off.
Wild vs wildcard. Can't imagine being lucky twice in two years. The main draw with Izzy and Jelena drawing each other was unbelievable when top 20 players were slugging it out against each other.... lol
I hope TA never does that again with Sydney and dishes out a random w/c like they have in previous years with Starr, Hewitt, Holland etc..... Unless you've say been a top 50 player before, you've really got no right being there.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
I actually wish Sydney would offer the wildcards to overseas events in a grand slam like exchange.
E.g swap a wildcard with Birmingham or Eastbourne
It would end up being far more beneficial to our girls than letting one of them get destroyed at home...
