Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
^^ Yep have to be in it to win it. Just hearing them speak about the opportunity to 'earn' a w/c - particularly with Mon who's time may have passed to ever qualify directly - makes you proud of them, even if their chances of going far in the tournie are slim.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
Not saying they don't deserve it because they do, but it is still not a good results in that a journeywomen would win it with very little use of the WC.
So I don't see how it is such a great results to have these two in the final.

Reasons why it's a great result:
- it demonstrates that an outsider can still get an AO MDWC by playing well and being committed, not just by being young and favoured by TA
- it gives battling players more hope that they can make something of their careers, which is a problem when we've seen players like Golds, Ferguson, Moore and Wejnert give up
- whoever wins out of Mon or Boj will get a great paycheque that will help them greatly with their tour expenses
- they're nice people and display good sportsmanship
- and because making a GS main draw is a great achievement in itself. It's a career goal for many players. Winning a GS match is a separate goal all together.

Usually journeymen/women are not as committed as people make the out to be. Sure they've been around for a long time, but it doesn't mean they worked their ass off, else they would have been much closer to top 100 over a consistent period.
All the points you mentioned are for personal reasons, for tennis in Australia it has no benefits.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
And some of you guys were stressing that Boj won't even get a QWC.

Re: December Showdown & 2013 Summer Events
WD to Bojana on winning the WC playoff well earned. She must so pleased that she has earned her place in the AO MD.
Bad luck Mon. Hope she can still get a discretionary MD WC, but it's a long shot.
