Stacey Allaster reveals Serena & Na will take women's tennis to the next level.

During the Serena vs JJ match they interviewed Stacey Allaster and she was very vocal. She made several comments and responded to questions as to her vision for the Wta tour when 50 Love comes around, where does she see the tour & how will it get to the next level.

Quote:
When it comes to taking women's tennis to the next level that woman on court (Serena Williams) is our leader, she will definitely take us to the next level and Li Na with her Asia Pacific impact is an unbelievable combination for us.
Quote:
This year has been a dream come true for Serena Williams, us (Wta tour) & her fans.
Quote:
It's a golden moment for women's tennis to have Serena Williams on the court.
So basically the Wta is getting their dream final with Serena & Na Li. Both Serena and Na Li are breaking records & making history in different ways. What's also impressive is the fact that both ladies are in their thirties.

Good point. They mentioned also that they hope for some stars to rise from the younger generation but for now Serena & Na Li are generating the desired exposure for the tour.

Re: Stacey Allaster reveals the player's wo will take women's tennis to the next leve

1) WTA lacks competitivity. There is nothing exciting if one player destroys everybody in straight sets in 90% of her matches. (I bet even some Serena fans would like to see a bit more fight from her opponents)

2) It's nice that Na Li is the first Asian woman to break into top 3 ... but she is also the only Asian player in top 30. It means WTA is expanding more and more on a continent where only one player is a real threat.

Worrying times for the WTA. Not to mention that outside the Grand Slams there is litterally no coverage on European channels.

Re: Stacey Allaster reveals the player's wo will take women's tennis to the next leve

What is combined age of both YEC finalists ?
Is this oldest final of a major event EVER ?
Was Top10 EVER that old ?
When career journeywoman becomes elite player in her 30s (sic!), is this good or bad for tour ?

What a ridiculous statement. After 10 years, how are these two going to take anything to the 'next level' what ever the hell that is.

Thanks for sharing. I love reading how these 2 great players have transcended the sport. True tennis enthusiast will appreciate what they have done for the sport. I also admire Stacey for recognizing such great champions.

Stacey is clueless, chasing rainbows in the far east when the vast majority of top players are European.

obviously a 31 years old who in the last 2 years reached 2 GS finals, won a GS, reached her career best ranking (#3) and continues to break records for her country is a shame and must be shot in her head for your own sake. stop drowning in your bitterness and sorrow

So she didn't say anything interesting at all, why have you created that thread?

Re: Stacey Allaster reveals the player's wo will take women's tennis to the next leve

Serena is one of the best player in history but... Its not weird she wins everything when there is totally no one (except Azarenka and brainless Jankovic) who believes she can beat Williams. Seren winning all matches losing few games and then she playing in final with Azarenka who is totally powerless after barely winning her matches (not literally of course). A lot of players believe they can beat Victoria but only Victoria believes she can beat Williams. This is a real problem.

Re: Stacey Allaster reveals the player's wo will take women's tennis to the next leve

If Bouchard starts dominating and winning slams then maybe she could become a superstar but I can't see that at the moment. When Serena goes, apart from Masha, there is no one out there that has superstar potential to take the WTA to the next level. It's better to have cheaper TV deals that ensures that the sport is easily accessible rather than chasing $$ and going for TV deals that will only get into the homes of very few such has what has happened in the UK. Stacey may think all is well but for most sport fans women's tennis only exists 4 times a year at the slams and that's not good. Taking everything to Asia won't help in the long run either

Re: Stacey Allaster reveals the player's wo will take women's tennis to the next leve

Marketing-wise, Serena-Li is a great final. But after these two fade, which is inevitable in the next five years, there's Sharapova, if her game returns from this round of shoulder problems (and who by then will also be on the 'wrong side' of 30, and who?

I love Azarenka's fight, And Errani, but the best player in her mid-20s from a big population country is Kerber. I'm just not feeling that. I think athletically, and in terms of game-play, the WTA is going to see real improvement over the next five-ten years. But star-power? Stephens, Bouchard, Halep? I'm just not feelin' it.

as a CEO she has to go where the money is. The far east represents that. right now you can barely fill the stadium in Europe and America but you do so in the Asia. Her vision has to be different that that of the fans.

The Wta championship final between Serena & Na was the single session record for the event. Stacey knows what she is talking about. Chris Evert even chimed in:

Quote:
Besides the Williams sister's Li Na has had the biggest impact on the game in the last decade.
