Well the main reason for that is Sharapova doesn't play there and doesn't care. You look at that list and you see Dementiva and Myskina again and again. Two players who it meant something to play at their home tournament. Two players who it also meant something to play for their country and Fed cup.

No surprise here. Russian tennis is on a decline.

As if people playing and winning @ the Olympics has shit to do with their country as much as it has to do with the want for self-glory (as it should be).

Now they have reason to cancel Moscow and to move it to Florida, so real Russian would play there

Sharapova is of another league player, her schedule is Slams, YEC oriented, she is not Dementieva, Myskina type of players who must have partcipated in all Kremlin Cups to win at least something on Tier 1 level
What is more the surface (RuKort) is probably the worst and the slowest in WTA tour...
as for Fed Cup , this year Masha played in QF and was ready to play in Final , but Serbian slumpers were too much for the rest of the team to get through

Re: No Russians in the SF of Moscow; 1st since 2002
Safina, Dementieva and Myskina are all retired. Vera is injured. All other Russian players are useless (in terms of winning tournaments). There is also Maria, but she doesn't care about tournaments in Russia. But she plays there if YEC will be in Moscow.
