Math is a science.....it is sometimes referred to as a dead science, but it is still considered a discipline of science.

Math isn't a science. Science involves an experimental method. Mathematics is an a priori enterprise that advances through deductions from axioms. And it isn't dead.

I love how all these petty contests become the hottest messes for no reason

Early mathematical theories (especially trigonometry and geometry) were based on experimental methods.......Similar to physics.....observation of everday occurences were answered (supported) through mathematical formulas.

I wanted a Master of Communication when I was in college, but then I just became more of a fan of hospitality.

Well, science or no science, it's definitely no liberal art here in China
Liberal arts refer to language, politics, tourism & hospitality, marketing, economic, etc. here in China. Even tho some of those majors have math involved during the process.

It's so damn cold in my hometown, I already forgot how cold it could get.
It's only early winter, and it's already like -9°C. I can't imagine how cold it could be when it's January

That might be the case in the very early history of mathematics. But sometime in Ancient Greece, mathematics was systematized and became more abstract (think Euclid). Most contemporary (pure) mathematicians don't use experimental methods in their research especially not in the way that science does (with hypotheses, control groups, statistical analysis). Also, scientists study natural phenomenon and physical stuff. Mathematicians don't.

I think in China they divide it into 2 parts, one that needs calculation and one that doesn't.
For example, my major, which was Spanish Literature, it's a typical liberal-art major. Cause what we learn has nothing to do with numbers or calculation.
While commerce/marketing/economics, they actually have something to do with numbers and calculation. So yea u rite, the distinction is actually quite meaningless.
