I'm surprisingly happy. Not too happy, but happy.
She lost, but she played well. I'm really proud of Maria.

Great year & tournament Maria
I'm happy that she got revenge on Haga and Vika.

It was a good match. Great one from Maria. Even tough she didn't win, she displayed the determination to do so, which she always do. I'm just happy for her, as she received the trophy she was flashing that huge smile of hers. A great year ender. Can't wait for Australian Open!

I'm really proud of how Maria played and competed today. With today's performance she could've straight setted every single player in the top 100 except for Serena, who's truely one of the best ever.. Serena really is that good! Her serve is out-of-this-world. You'd need Djokovic to return it!
Great way to end the year! She was happy about getting the runner-up trophy too!

Off the top of my head.. Maria had a +1 ratio, while Serena had a +15/20 at least, including aces and service winners.

I feel so sad and happy at the same time. I am sad that this phenomenal season has come to an end for Maria. What a year it has been. It felt like she was making the semis/final of nearly every tournament she entered. Amazing . I am so proud of her today, she played fearless for once in this match-up. There is room for improvement and she was so happy at the end. No doubt she was ecstatic and so pleased with her amazing season. I hope she has a nice break and works hard in the off-season. I cant wait to watch her play in Brisbane (please come this time). So proud to be a fan right now.

I feel the same way, too Not the best way to end the season, but she certainly has exceeded our expectations here, beating Aga and Vika on the way on hardcourt
Hoping for a good run at AO 13 already! CareerSlamPova, please open the 'things you want maria to achieve in 2013' thread

Re: YEC 2012 iSTANBUL Mission: Beat Vika/Rena, humiliate Haga and win the title.
There seems to be a race developing between Maria and Vika in who will finally beat Serena first. Based on how recent matches have gone, Vika is certainly closer. But that's mostly based on how Serena plays them. So often against Vika, Serena looks lethargic and error-prone and only ups her game when absolutely necessary. But against Maria, EVERY SINGLE TIME, she's in full GOAT mode from the first point. She never gives Maria a chance to breathe.

Re: YEC 2012 iSTANBUL Mission: Beat Vika/Rena, humiliate Haga and win the title.
*ignores Acetoace*
Sigh. Can't say I'm not disappointed, but I'm proud of Maria that she finally actually fought in a match against Serena. I don't care what anyone says, this is the second-best Serena's played against Maria only behind the AO07 final
Even though Maria was serving at her best and fought like a trojan, there were things she could've done better. Didn't move anywhere near as well as yesterday, didn't return that great (esp on 2nd serves), was a bit too tentative off the ground. For me, the most encouraging part is that Maria looked so disappointed at the end - she KNOWS she could've done better. Hopefully, this defeat has the same effect as the YEC07 defeat to Justine (yes, obviously this match wasn't nearly as compettive, but it's similar in the respect that Maria probably exceeded her expectations - depressing though that is), and this produces a combined effect of giving her the confidence she can hang with Serena as well as motivating her to improve over the offseason to be even better next time she plays.
Anyway, genuinely so proud of her for what she's done this year -- I mean really WHO could've anticipated her results in 2012 would be this good this time last year? Hopefully she does some more rehab on her shoulder and improves her game even more over the offseason; if she does, she's definitely among the top contenders for RG and the AO.

Good year Maria. Congratulation
I'm 100% sure this time last year no one think you can do like this year.
Looking forward to 2013 season

Re: YEC 2012 iSTANBUL Mission: Beat Vika/Rena, humiliate Haga and win the title.
The only thing that Maria needs is a lower FS percentage from Serena! It was sky high in this match and much lower in the others. Frankly, if Vika played Serena today, she would've managed to win 4 games at best.
