Re: YEC 2012 iSTANBUL Mission: Beat Vika/Rena, humiliate Haga and win the title.

Am I the only one who thinks that Maria needs to ballbash very well to win against Vika? I mean, in that 1st set at the USO she was playing first strike tennis, returning, serving beautifully and winning points quickly. The problem is that Maria isn't that good of a ballbasher anymore. Most of the times she has tried to ballbash this year, it's ended up being an UE-fest!

so rena's basically already in the final guys.
guess we have to face facts that she gets everything she wants
nobodys gonna beat her in this form, even if she hasn't played for a month. i haven't lost faith in masha at all, but its depressing when the top 8 elite players can barely have a competitive set against rena

True! If Serena plays well, none of the girls on tour can win more than 3 games. If Serena plays average, none of the girls on tour can take a set from her. There's simply too much power for them to handle! But I'll take a loss to Serena better than another loss to Vika!

I don't care what happens in the final, I just want her to beat Vika today nothing else.

Anyone think Rad is run out of gas after 2 long 3 set-match. I can't see 'run run' in here

True! But she can't reach or control some of Serena's shots because her power and speed of shots are unmatched!

Re: YEC 2012 iSTANBUL Mission: Beat Vika/Rena, humiliate Haga and win the title.

btw was researching battle of the sexes (i wish it came back ) and found this:

In 1998, 203rd ranked male player Karsten Braasch took on Venus Williams and beat her 6–2. He also played Serena Williams and won 6–1 after the Williams sisters, who were 17 and 16 at the time, said they could beat any man ranked 200 or worse. Braasch was 15 years older than Serena and Venus, and had drunk 2 beers and played one round of golf that morning.[20] Braasch said afterwards, "500 and above, no chance" as he claimed he had played like someone ranked 600 in order to keep the game "fun."[21] Yannick Noah and Justine Henin also played a match. The Frenchman won 4–6, 6–4, 7–6.

Re: YEC 2012 iSTANBUL Mission: Beat Vika/Rena, humiliate Haga and win the title.

^obviously both sisters are much more developed tennis players now, but the reason why rena's wins so easily and so often is because there's noone else on the tour like her, or built like her. whereas with the men all of them are similar stature (skills aside) i think it's all in the genetics and the natural power when you consider rena as a 'tennis player'. whereas for masha it's about learning, improving and developing. her height is both beneficial and a hindrance

True! No woman on tour has their physical structure, so it's tough for them to keep up with that kind of pace of shot.

Maria's serve should be so much better because of how tall she is!

Re: YEC 2012 iSTANBUL Mission: Beat Vika/Rena, humiliate Haga and win the title.

I think this is a better chance for a win against Vika than in their most previous matches.
Azarenka wasn't good at her match against Li so if she beats Maria today I hope it's because she played better than that and not because Maria sucked even more.

Ok. Serena just finished. I don't know what's going tp happen. Maria may win her SF or lose badly, but if she manages to get through we have to accept that she's going to get a beatdown in the final.. Serena was marvellous in that second set! Anyway, let's start focusing on the SF!
