Problem for Maria is Vika's very consistent. Her level won't drop one or two leagues like Petra's did this year. And i don't see Maria developing a totally different plan on HC, she just can't keep up with the pace in this matchup so she takes too much risks. If she gets involved into rallies with Vika the result will be the same. I am strictly speaking about HC, in the spring many thought Vika's an all surface player, that's probably not true. Don't see Vika dominating on clay and probably not on grass either.

Maria developed a totally different game to adapt to clay courts, I'm sure she and her team will do the very best to figure Vika's game on HC.
As for Vika, it's not a shame to admit it since 80% of the tournaments are played on HC but yeah she is a HC player. The 2 finals she made this year on clay she got badly punished and her movement was very exposed on the surface.
She probably will never win Wimbledon or FO, a Clijsters-lite career definitely.

HMmm..I don't know about her never winning Wimby or FO just yet..it ain't like there's a player who has a lock on the RG and Serena ain't gonna be around forever.
If she can start earning more free points out of her serve, then she could do damage on these surfaces too imo.

Thought Maria would step up and at least make it competitive. Girl needs to stop being so useless in finals.
Congrats Vika. First title since IW.

The problem on clay ain't about the serve otherwise Serena would have won the French and red clay titles by now.
As for grass courts, she needs a bigger serve that's for sure and the will to take risks before her opponent does. Vika is seriously good at redirecting pace and constructing points but on grass you need that first strike tennis. Vika's game is very consistent but not that explosive this is why I don't think she will win that major.

Exactly
Perhaps we're getting worried that Vika is giving Maria as many beatdowns as Serena does?
Who knows?

Serena's problems on red clay are differently, but ain't about Serena.
Vika played Serena pretty good at Wimbledon, so there's potential there.

The same Serena who should have to lost to Zheng, Shevodva or sth no. Serena was just serve in Wimbledon 2012 and it was enough to win in straights it's quite telling.

WD again Vika, great tournament, fantastic year , .

I don't think that Azarenka "fears" Serena though.
Whenever I see them face each other, there seems to be a sense of mutual respect for one anothers game. That just might be my own amateur opinion though.
The way I see it, Azarenka still has a good many years of youthful tennis ahead of her, and she still has plenty of untapped potential. I believe that it all depends on her motivation to continue improving at this point. So I'm absolutely certain that she will defeat Serena occasionally.
The fact that Serena is still hanging with this youthful generation of opponents speaks solely to her determination (and motivation) to prove to herself that she is still a relevant top contender.
I only conclude this because she's now won everything she set out to win. There really is nothing else left for her to acheive.
That said, I suspect that she and Azarenka should provide us fans with some nice competitive battles for a little while longer.
It also helps that most of Azarenka's fans are pretty kewl too.
