Was Maria's Olympic final performance the worst final performance of the year?
In looking back over the year and all the WTA finals, who had the worst performance in a final?
Correct me if I am wrong, but the 6-0/6-1 Maria's lost to Serena in the Olympic Final Gold Medal Match was the worst. Only 1 game won by Maria!
Again, correct me if I am wrong?  |

Not really. Sharapova had very little say in that final  There's a difference between not playing well and not being allowed to play well.

it's funny b/c I don't even think it was about Maria not playing playing well....she was just basically not allowed to play and just had to take whatever Serena was giving her

Not only that, and correct me if I am wrong, it was the biggest audience ever too. That stadium was filled, a zillion TVs were tuned in, it was the Olympics. This tennis tournament only comes around EVERY 4 YEARS!! IMO, it is higher than a slam. And to muster up only 1 game, come on now!! This might rate as the worst final performance of the decade, or century!! What ya think?

She didnt play poorly in the final. She didnt play great either, but she wasnt allowed to play tennis in that final so it is impossible to say much about her performance good or bad. It was definitely far from her worst though. The Australian Open and Miami finals this year alone were way worse. So was the Rome final where she played like 11% and beat a 10% Na in a royal shitfest.

Exactly. Serena took the match completely out of her hands. She was the only player on court today, and it would have been that way regardless who was on the other side.
