Re: Serena's 2013 Clay Court Strategy
She has to skip Madrid, it's a useless tournament.

 What?
Li and Kuzntsova move really really well on clay courts.
Ana used to move beautifully on clay. It was so natural and unstressed.
I can't remember a player making more improvements in their career on one surface than Sharapova has on clay. Her movement was superlative this year. When you combine that with her reach and the fact that she's almost always dictating, it can look unplayable.
Serena has always played hard court tennis on clay. She's probably faster than all these players except Li though.

No way is Serena skipping Madrid. The conditions suit her perfectly, and she's defending champ.

Unplayable? Really? She wasn't dominating. She scraped by Li and Stosur...and wasn't Azarenka injured in Stuttgart? She played well in Paris, but Kvitova sucks on clay and Errani in the finals? Please.

People act as if the colour of the court makes it play differently. Sure, it might be faster than other clay surfaces. But watch highlights...the game is obviously much shorter and there are way more rallies than traditionally fast surfaces. Not to mention the fact that it's slippery and movement is very specific to the nature of the court.
It's not useless for Serena. I'd say she gained a lot of confidence from the way she dismantled everyone during those two 'useless' clay court tournaments.

Re: Serena's 2013 Clay Court Strategy
Serena should keep a light schedule and go for a grand slam next year. She has the motivation to get 2 more to complete the Golden Serena Slam, especially with unfinished business at RG. Wimbledon and US Open, based on this year's results, aren't far out of reach if she can keep her fitness and health up. Big ifs.

Re: Serena's 2013 Clay Court Strategy
Her strategy should be to pray for a lot of luck b/c that's the only way she's winning RG (just like Sharapova)
