I don't considered her one IMO
She ended the year in the top 50 for 12 straight years I think she was pretty consistent where she was at

Loit? perhaps, or Camille Pin.
Then again when was Pin ever a top player?
Sticking with the french theme could Dechy be put in this category. Reached her Slam Semi and had a good rest of the year then went downhill.

Ai, ai, ai....you do realize Alona Bondarenko spent 5 consecutive years as top 35,in a 4 year span was seeded a 14 majors and has made it to the 3rd or better in 10 majors and only fell off due to surgery in which she has yet to return.
Beth Mattek-Sands was only ever seeded ONCE in a major and never cracked the top 30, so she hardly fits this; besides the fact that she was top 40, got injured then returned back to top 40 before being injured again(so again this doesn't fit at all)
And Zuluaga was top 40, became injured then returned BACK to top 40 and finished her last season 23 in the world!

Re: 'Journey Women' who became top players for a brief period before returning to nor
To me Jankovic over-achieved...she was thought by most to be a top 20 player who might sneak into the top 10, but a solid 2007, along with some injuries/weak form by others allowed her into the top 5. Any one who considers a player who manages to make it to the top 5 (let alone #1) a journeywoman, though, is crazy.
Mariaan de Swardt comes to mind...I believe it was 95 or 96 where she had an abnormally sucessful year

Re: 'Journey Women' who became top players for a brief period before returning to nor
Threads like this are always certain to frustrate, because people begin to compile a list of players WHO WERE NEVER TOP PLAYERS TO BEGIN WITH.

'Journey Women' who became top players for a brief period before returning to norm?
That can mean
a) in terms of ranking
b) in terms of tournaments.
Nearly all posts focused on rakings,
but what about Martinez Sanchez or Rezai who won 1 very big tournamnent and don't have any really good result at other big tournaments.
Or Hradacka who reached the final of Madrid and don't have any huge results at other big tournaments.
That's more like being a top player for one week.

This thread is about ranking as defined by its creator.
For one-tournament wonders you have this.
Mariajo finished the past three seasons top 35 so her CH of #19 after that Rome win is not much of a ranking aberration, and Hradecka have been stable around the top 50 mark for quite a while (even though she focuses more on doubles).
Rezai, other than Madrid, also won the first ToC ('09), which had very inflated ranking points that year, and as Jason said she does fit this thread.
