Re: If It Wasn't For Serena
If it wasn't for Virginie Razzano, there would be no Maria career slam!

I concur!!! Vika would have wooped pova's ass if both were to be in a WB final. Vika is the real deal among other players not a Williams. There is a solid promising future waiting on this girl.

Re: If It Wasn't For Serena
Another thing I'm begining to like about Vika is tha fact that, just like Williamses, she is learning to deal with entire crowd in a match rooting against her. She is gradually developing the skills that made the Williamses "steal" in the face of adversity. Vika is learning real fast and it can only make her stronger IMHO.

Re: If It Wasn't For Serena
Venus would be the greatest player of this generation and be one of the greats.
Maria Sharapova wouldn't have gotten all this fame and all these endorsement deals

If it was not for Justine, Serena would have completed the calendar Grand Slam in 2007 !
Jesustine saved tennis.

Re: If It Wasn't For Serena
As someone else said, Vika would have had to play Kvitova in the Wimby semis, so that one is by no means guaranteed.

Re: If It Wasn't For Serena
Jesus. I like Vika, but she wouldn't've beaten Petra at Wimbledon or Maria at the Olympics.

If they'd played at Wimbledon with the form they both displayed there this year, then Vika probably would've won (although Maria obviously played so bad there that she wouldn't've been competing for the title with or without Serena in the draw anyway).
At the Olympics, where Maria was playing reasonably well, Maria would probably have won. Vika doesn't move anywhere near as well on either clay or grass as she does on hardcourts, and we saw what happens in Stuttgart when Vika isn't able to defend well against Maria.

Re: If It Wasn't For Serena
Maria lost to Serena 6-0 6-1
Vika managed to win more games....
that on grass.
So while I agree on saying that Vika would have not been a lock at all against Maria, it's just silly to say Maria would have won. She is nowhere near her 2004-2005 best on grass lbr.
