I don't like how she's just going in cold which is why I'm not entirely sure she'll play. But I noticed the first year she won it in 2001 she went straight to YEC after the USOpen F.

Vika and Martha would've both had to lose early to make her even have a shot at YE #1. I doubt Serena really cares about finishing as the YE #1 when she knows she can get it back with some decent results in the early part of next year. Especially with Vika having a shit ton of points to defend and Martha's useless ass will remain useless.

Yeah you're right, Vika is around 500 points clear off Pova who is around 300 off Serena but had Serena won both Beijing and YEC (which was in her reach IMO), she could have at the very least snatched the second place to Maria.
As for next season, we never know. I expect Serena to show up at the Australian and maybe win but she won't sustain that level of play undefinitely cause when she's dominating bad shit always happens, either an injury or disinterest. And I expect both Vika and especially Maria to improve their game next year. I actually think Maria will get the best of Vika in the next meetings while still being Serena's bottom hoe.
