Mel and people like Zaniewska etc also played several Australian Money Tournaments during their stays down under to help keep up the cash flow and a couple also were paid to play in the Australian National League competition...

Yeah Mel doesn't get LTA funding anymore. I think she does well with her doubles and mixed prize money from Wimbledon each year, has some money in the family I guess.
Plays money tournaments Down Under, has family/friends there I think
