Britain has a great tradition in Paralympic sport, I'm sure the games will be a huge success!

Re: The 2012 London Paralypmic thread
I can't wait for the Paralympics. Normally I don't get a chance to watch them as they just start as I go back to school but that's not an issue this year so I hope to watch as much of them as I can.
I'm really looking forward to watching Ilke Wyludda. She won the Olympic discus title for able-bodied athletes in 1996 and retired from competition in 2000 (I think). She had the lower part of one of her legs amputated last year and she returned to competition this year aged 43. I think she's competing in the shot and discus.

Re: The 2012 London Paralypmic thread
I'm thoroughly looking forward to the Paralympics Games! Still on a high from how great the Olympics were and didn't feel so blue after it finished because I knew we still had the Paralympics to come. After that's finished though, gonna feel so I think with the success Team GB had at the Olympics, a lot more people will be tuning in to see the Paralympics now UK-wise. Also looking forward to what the ceremonies will be like (more Kate Bush please!).
My brother saw a billboard from Channel 4 for the Games, saying "Thanks for the warm-up"

Still burned out on the Olympics. IMO they should have them in separate years.

Should Pistorius be competing?

Re: The 2012 London Paralypmic thread
I don't know. Once you graduate to the top level, and he has by reaching the semis at the Olympics and winning a relay silver at the World's, it seems weird to take a step down. It would be like a top women's player playing juniors even though she is reaching the quarters of the senior slams. There's nothing stopping them, but it doesn't really make sense.

Re: The 2012 London Paralypmic thread
I read somewhere that the coverage of the games in America will be terribly limited, is that true?

Re: The 2012 London Paralypmic thread
You need to have cable basically to watch it.
But on that front, you wouldn't have seen things like Archery, Judo, Water Polo etc. if you didn't have cable, so it's not a complete slight to the Paralympic games

There's a big difference in those two cases though. Paralympics aren't B/lower version of the regular Olympics. They are to celebrate sport as a way to overcome barriers and any disabilities. And I'm sure that the athletes taking part in it experience something more than just being a part of the competition. I don't see what they have in common with junior events.
