She played only average for me . Way too many errors, especially double faults. I don't know, but she looked so unfocused at times to me. Still could have won, but the bath room break after the 2nd set which allowed Venus to regroup was really stupid, sorry.

Let's hope for a better tournament next week, the draw was really unlucky.

Tough loss for Makiri. I guess her game was a bit messy. I think that was due to the Olympic hangover for her. Playing Venus is a tough first round match. But Kiri played so clean in the Olympics that to know she lost to Venus and played sloppily is dissapointing even though it's somewhat understandable. Now she needs to get down to work because it's hardcourt season and all of a sudden Kiri has lost 3 singles matches in a row.

Definitely the combo of Olympic hangover and hard court adjustment was no good for her. Her serve was just a disaster today. I'm sure she can do better on hard court once she has the opportunity to build up her game against weaker players.

it's unusual for kiri to make so many double faults. It's really tough to play your first match on hardcourt after a long time against a player like venus
right, the bathroom break was so unnecessary, you don't need that after you won a set from 3-5 down in a great way in the tiebreak
at least she never gave up, great fighting spirit! just a bad way to end it, losing the service game after 40-0 on DF

well, let's just forget cincinnati, and let's see what happens in new haven, she needs some match practice for the USO. I am sure we will see the totally focused Maria back then

@Makiri: ja, tatsaechlich bin ich sogar Deutscher . Du auch also? Zum Tennisfan geworden bin ich damals durch Steffi und Boris, die Helden meiner Kindheit . Habs dann ne Weile nicht mehr so verfolgt, jetzt wieder ziemlich intensiv, hauptsaechlich wegen Maria.

hehe, sehr schön, ansonsten "muss" ich immer auf englisch mit anderen kiri fans diskutieren also ich bin italienischer staatsbürger, bin aber aus südtirol, und hier sprechen wir deutsch
oh ja, als kind war ich auch steffi fan, damals gab's noch herrliche und ausführliche berichterstattung vom tennis auf zdf, ard und auch rtl!
geht mir gleich, leider bin ich ziemlich spät zum riesenfan von maria geworden. Bald wird's ein jahr, seit dem epischen tiebreak gegen stosur bin ich erst richtig aufmerksam auf sie geworden. Seitdem beschäftigte ich mich mehr mit ihr und mittlerweile ist sie mir richtig ans herz gewachsen nun verfolge ich ihre matches und somit die WTA intensiver als je zuvor
