Re: Aussie ITF circuit 2012/2013
Shit, I forgot about Sumner
Safe to say she's given it up. Showed some minor promise a couple of years ago, but was left behind by the others in her age group. Wasn't really going anywhere I suppose, so I'd say she's chucked it in.
I'm disappointed that Sophie Letcher has seemingly given up. Definitely was on the rise, but looks like she is done too.
Holland most likely injured and licking her wounds from an awful year. I think she will be back though, but I can't see her getting top 200 again.
Rajicic? Your guess as good as mine! Injury prone, and doesn't strike me as the most dedicated to get herself fit following a lay-off. She has such raw talent though
Bengson might be taking a break, and I reckon Mirkovic is done. Ditto Alenka Hubacek.

Re: Aussie ITF circuit 2012/2013
Ashling entered all of these oz tournaments- but withdrew as well. So she hasn't given up, not sure what it is though, maybe an injury.
Abbie has been grinding away all year overseas, maybe just a break.

Re: Aussie ITF circuit 2012/2013
Not sure about Dunser, might be concentrating on school.
Tipungwuti still plays around the place in AMTs, not really good enough anyway.
Nancarrow, still training in Spain.
Polak, not sure...didn't really progress as much as her counterparts.
Wejnert, Rich...gave up. Rich probs injuries, Wejnert 'cause she couldn't be bothered
Hoppers, Jade is apparently studying law in Queensland...maybe when she is done she'll give it another go. Skye is in Turkey at her dads academy, without Jade's talent.
Vriens is playing college tennis in Florida. I wish more of our lower ranked girls would take this route and then come back Bobusic/Bengson style

Re: Aussie ITF circuit 2012/2013
Viki might be finished year 12 or something?
Alex Nancarrow is in qualies in a Spanish $25K next week.
Geez I wish the ITF would raise the prizemoney a bit. Travel expenses have increased shitloads over the years and prizemoney hasn't moved an inch. No wonder girls are giving up. It's crazy.
On the other hand, regardless of ITF raising prizemoney levels, TA should be able to develop a stronger local circuit. Australia's one of the world's strongest economies but our local tennis circuit is actually dwindling instead of growing. How absurd.

Re: Aussie ITF circuit 2012/2013
The problem is that if the ITF increase money for Satellites/Challengers, there will be fewer tournaments! Its basically a donation by a company as it is. They get no return on their advertising/sponsorship of a tournament, and there is no entry fee or crowd at these events either! As it stands, a good chunk of the prizemoney at $10K is actually the players entrance fees!

Took the words right out of my mouth re Astra...i said the same thing re agkul to a few people this week....she is improving fast and I look forward to seeing how she goes in december this year!

Re: Aussie ITF circuit 2012/2013
Really the seeds 1-8 should qualify easily here.
The only seed from 1-8 I see slipping up is Moriarty
But then she has Balint... and Dikosavljevic so

Looking through the various threads, appears plenty of talent exists at junior age, but largely drops off by late teens. Athletes making it through to Pro Circuit level describe in detail the prohibitive economics of competing on the circuit which limits their prospects. We fall short of our pipeline potential. Besides player talent, the bigger question seems to be can we find the right talent in leadership positions to see the situation for what it is, and visionaries to turn it around to better outcomes? Without change we are destined for continued decades of squandered talent...

Re: Aussie ITF circuit 2012/2013
Traralgon is OK. Bogans abound, but hey, it's country Vic. It's not that far from Melbourne, and probably one of the easiest shithole towns to get to on this ITF circuit. From a travel perspective, it's one of the better options as there is a fast express train direct from Melbourne.
The club they play at is very good too, and the town really gets behind these tournaments.
