Re: 2012 USTA National Championships (San Diego, CA) | August 05-12
Vicky Way to go!!! I think it's safe to say she is back on track after what I think was an injury kept her from playing until May of this year. Hope she gets a decent draw at the Open!
Allie A QWC (which the runner up usually gets, right?) is probably better for her (and most of the girls in this tournament) anyways.

Re: 2012 USTA National Championships (San Diego, CA) | August 05-12
the better player lost, Allie's technique is SO ahead of others.
That said, she needs to add power to her strokes, evidently knife-like precision is not enough.
Victoria defended well, and Allie began to leak errors in the end. Victoria's drive was a bit more powerful too.
And crucially, maybe Allie was just not mentally ready. While Victoria had tough wins Allie cruised. In the end the tougher player won. If Allie also improves her mental game, say like Lauren Davis, she could be a scary player..

^ I feel like before her injury Duval was on track to be our best junior. I would say she is a better player than Kiick from what I have seen.

Was this match televised? No, Allie was unbalancing Victoria COUNTLESS times(do you know how many times Vic had to lunge to defend those shots? Allie's shots were just sharper), just that Vic managed to return all those sharp drives. Just posted the recap at my blog.
I do wonder what Ken Thomas of RadioTennis thought of this match, he was commentating on the match.

I wonder if you've seen Allie play recently, but this year's Allie is a completely different animal from last year; She was losing to Blair Shankle at ISC(and she relentlessly approached the net and volleyed to the win, THAT match got my attention at first)..was routined by Kyle at EB.
This year she beat Townsend and won the ISC, so

I did in fact see her earlier this summer in Raleigh.
And Duval also just demolished Townsend dropping only three games.

Yeah, I know that Duval demolished Townsend. But have you seen the respective players' results in this tournament? I moreover did see them play here, so
It's not like Duval demolished Kiick by blazing winners all over the place, for the most of the time Duval was too busy chasing Kiick's sharp placed drives . But you do have to hand it to Vicky, she did manage to return those...I'd say her defense and fighting spirit in the end won the day. She was maybe mentally tougher. It was similar to Hardebeck vs Scholl game I guess.

Re: 2012 USTA National Championships (San Diego, CA) | August 05-12
for example, like I wrote on the blog, Kyle was totally schooling Duval from the middle of the 2nd set before getting tight and making errors and DFs to get upset. Austin was blazing winners all over the place against Duval before she self-destructed committing 4 DFs in her last two srv games too. She's maybe the most mentally toughest player there, I'll acknowledge that. She also had a marathon 3 sets match against Hibi, while Kiick bageled Hibi in the 2nd set at ISC.
There was no BIG GAP between Duval and other elite players.

Re: 2012 USTA National Championships (San Diego, CA) | August 05-12
Of course I don't mean Duval just defended all the way, her bh was in fact one of the best out there, and her shots did have more punch to it than Allie's. But I was more impressed with Allie's shotmaking overall, and her variety is just insane..when on she just schooled Duval, that was the 1st set and I thought that was both their level. Then Allie began making routine errors from the 2nd..really similar to Hardebeck Scholl match.

Fantic, did you record any clips of this match that we might get to see?

I'm not allowed to, although others freely did it I was actually threatened expulsion if I did that 2 yrs ago. I really wish I could've recorded it.
But there IS a way to watch other matches though, yesterday's semis. I think GroundsPass's Marcus recorded ALL of the Stadium Matches, though I think he'll upload just a few minutes on the You Tube.

Re: 2012 USTA National Championships (San Diego, CA) | August 05-12
basically Allie just whined away from the middle of the 2nd set, just a terrible meltdown, maybe more extreme than Hardebeck's..her body language was terrible and really didn't exert herself. She evidently meant to and was confident in finishing in two I guess, and when that plan went awry, just crumbled.

I've practically taken note of the whole 1st and 2nd set, but will just post from the last game of the 1st to 1-4 in the 2nd at my blog.
