Rankings
UCI's Kristina Smith and Franziska Goettsching jump into the doubles ranking at #40.
Well deserved after beating Pepperdine's top 10 team of Lorraine Guillermo and Khunpak Issara.
Remember Kristina Smith was a 3 time CIF Southern Section doubles finalist and 1 time champion with partner Brynn Boren who is currently ranked nationally in the top 10 doubles at Tennessee.

Re: Updates
UCSB def. Colorado 4-3
- A Big West win over the Pac 12. UCSB adds Karolina Kecki who isn't shown on their roster yet but she won at #6 singles. I recall her older brother Mat Kecki was a blue chip that played for USC.
#43 Long Beach St. def. San Diego St. 4-3
Nice road win for Da Beach & Big West. SDSU is unranked but they did upset #45 St. Mary's.
Wow not one American player on scholarship this season between Long Beach St. & San Diego St. (assuming that Hazuki Onaga is a walk-on).

Re: Updates
#43 Long Beach St. def. #65 Hawaii 4-3
No big deal beating this Hawaii team (one that had just lost to Cal St. Fullerton ).
Jaime Pawid leaving cost Hawaii their chance to contend for the Big West title this season.
UCSB def. LMU 4-3
Seems like nobody loses to LMU, well except Long Beach St.

Re: Updates
#46 Long Beach St. def. UNC Greensboro 6-1
Upcoming matches.
Hey fantic in 2 weeks is your chance to watch, when they play against UCI, a pair of tennis playing twins who have a popular recruiting video on Youtube. You can see in person if they can hit the ball as fast as it appears to be going in their video.
After the twin's team UCI will be playing a pretty good Louisville team who defeated #41 Minnesota and #75 Wisconsin. Louisville players Stefanie Villajuan & Alex Tachovsky will be returning home to Southern California including also playing Long Beach St.

Re: Updates
#46 Long Beach St. def. Wake Forest 4-3
Big West win over ACC.
Unfortunate for LBS that on their expensive East Coast road trip they catch UNCG & Wake Forest on down years when both teams are not ranked.

Re: Updates
#73 N.C. St. def. #46 Long Beach St. 6-1
We knew Long Beach St. could beat unranked teams that were down this year like UNCG & Wake Forest so #73 N.C. St. will be the test.
1. Kissell/Tatiana (NC St) def. Malenovska/Cantlay 8-5
2. Hande/Martinez (NC St) led Unden/Rozenberg 6-5 unfinished
3. Smith/Nelson (NC St) def. Willems/Onaga 8-4
1. #40 Kissell (NC St) def. Malenovska 6-0,6-3
2. Illova (NC St) def. Unden 6-2,6-3
3. Cantlay (LBS) def. Martinez 6-3,6-4
4. James-Baker (NC St) def. Rodriguez 6-2,7-5
5. Hande (NC St) def. Rozenberg 7-5,7-6
6. Smith (NC St) def. Willems 6-3,7-6
Last time these two teams played N.C. St. was decimated with injuries and I think was forced to play 2 walk-ons that basically gave LBS a charity win at the ITA Indoors.
Well this time both teams are healthy and Long Beach St. failed the test, not only being upset but getting crushed by North Carolina St.

Re: Updates
2/26/13 Rankings
Singles
125. Kristina Smith (UCI)

Doubles
48. Kristina Smith/Goettsching (UCI)
Team
30. UC Irvine (+20)
39. Long Beach St. (+7)
54. UCSB (unranked)
40. San Diego St. (unranked)
51. Boston College (unranked)
63. LSU (-9)
64. San Jose St. (unranked)
67. Tulane (-11)
70. Louisville (unranked)
- These are the first computer team rankings for this season.
- This may be the 3rd highest ranked UCI team in the Coach Edles era behind 06-07 & 09-10.
- UCSB getting ranked is huge for UCI & LBS since Hawaii dropped out. Although Hawaii has a chance to upset #40 SDSU this week.
- San Jose St. & Louisville getting ranked can only help UCI.
- Boston College & Louisville getting ranked can only help LBS.

Re: New Big West - 2012-13
LBSU lost 3-4 at UCI? Not bad, frankly I thought that it might be a rout.

Re: Updates
3/2/13
#30 UC Irvine def. #39 Long Beach St. 4-3
1. No. 41 Kristina Smith/Franzisk Goettsching (UCI) def. Klaudia Malenovska/Sarah Cantlay (LBSU) 8-5
2. Marivick Mamitt/Sarah Stadfelt (UCI) vs. Ebba Unden/Karolina Rozenberg (LBSU) unfinished
3. Ali Facey/Brooke Schweyer (UCI) def. Hazuki Onaga/Anne-Sophie Willems (LBSU) 8-1
- In a really big match, no surprise Hazuki Onaga and Anne-Sophie Willems wilted under the pressure.
1. No. 125 Kristina Smith (UCI) def. Klaudia Malenovska (LBSU) 4-6, 6-4, 6-1
2. Ebba Unden (LBSU) def. Marivick Mamitt (UCI) 6-2, 6-4
3. Sarah Cantlay (LBSU) def. Franzisk Goettsching (UCI) 6-4, 6-1
4. Sarah Gong (UCI) def. Eva Rodriguez (LBSU) 6-0, 6-2
5. Karolina Rozenberg (LBSU) def. Ali Facey (UCI) 6-3, 6-4
6. Sarah Stadfelt (UCI) def. Anne-Sophie Willems (LBSU) 6-4, 6-1
- Who else but UCI's Kristina Smith could come from behind and clinch the win against Long Beach St.
- LBS's Eva Rodriguez has lost 6 of her last 7 but hasn't moved down the line-up to #5 singles. On the other hand Karolina Rozenberg is being stacked at #5 singles despite going 10-2 in her last 12 matches.
UCI is the NEW top team in the NEW Big West!

Congratulations Gouci, Got to feel exciting!
I'm thinking those national rankings compare favorably with conference ranking of other years. True?
Edit. What I am asking is this season's results a sign of a rising Big West that two teams are in the top 40, and competition at the top.

Don't worry fantic LBS won't have much to brag about in the NEW BIG WEST!
Well LBS can brag they have more #4 singles players than anyone else in the NEW BIG WEST.

I don't follow this stuff at all, but I was googling this just to check what teams were due to be playing next year. This has all disintegrated, has it? Or probably will? The Big West next year will be same as Big West last year only with Hawaii replacing Pacific?
(I was wondering whether there were likely to be any Brits in the conference in 2013-14--mind you, Britain itself, the UK, that is, may disintegrate next year, although opinion polls say that's unlikely)
