I love the January start, because it's like right after New Years it's time for the tennis season to start.

My biggest issue is the spring hard court season. Indian Wells and Miami don't produce the quality tennis that they did five or six years ago IMO.

2012 RG was all about completing unfinished business, conquering the Demons Past and Redemption. It was about calming the anxiety and fear of failure to measure up to fierce competition. It was about letting the World know, unequivacally and without question, that Pova's measure was taken and found to be unexcelled in Tennis.

As I click into the 2012 W thread, I feel optimistic, positive and excited for the future and for our girl, Pova, who, like the Phoenix, has risen from the ashes. A new world, full of opportunities for incredible Glory and the inevitable heartbreaking defeats, awaits our Champion.
We'll never know what would Maria accomplish in 2008 if her shoulder didn't bother her but miraculously we may be able to relive the history this year.

I'm sure Maria will lose matches again but hope they don't happen in the near future.

I agree. I think it's the surface change that favors more baseline grinding games and the fact that there aren't any spectacular hard court specialists like Clijsters left. That being said, I love Indian Wells, mostly because I might go there next year (and Maria doesn't have to fly to the courts) . You can't really take away prestige that easily. Larry Ellison did a lot to improve it.

Miami seems anti-climatic to me now. It's the second Premier Mandatory in a row, and the week after it goes straight to clay season.

Same. Also because it means I can use Melbourne as my stopover home and don't have to buy extra airline tickets. And its vacation time.

It'd be so strange to hear commentators saying 'maria sharapova, 4 grandslam champions' when the coverage starts for Wimbledon, btw. I am just so used to hearing '3 grandslam champions'

It's so crazy, but evetything is going to be different now when she starts Wimbledon.
All of a sudden she's an all time great.

It's not about pressure anymore, it's just going to be about trying to play the best she can.

I do feel like the pressure has really been lifted. This could really make a huge difference to Maria and she might start playing even metter.

Re: [Wimbledon 2012] What does Moo eat? Grass!

Really hope she meets Kvitova there. Should be a cracker of a match, and despite Kvitova's game being tailor made for grass, 3-0 in Maria's favor this year alone should translate in a VERY different match from last year's final beatdown.
