I really don't want Safarova for 3rd round.. or Vika/Masha in the 4th.
All the opponents in R3 are OK. There are few of them who probably won't reach R3.

You are right about R4. It's important for her not to draw Annoyenka or Masha. Radwanska is totally beatable on clay. It could even be an easier match than R3.

QF: Bartoli

I don't want Safarova for round 3.

I'm also praying Venus is far away. She will be unseeded, so.. hopefully nowhere near Ana. I'm begging for complete scrubs in rounds 1 and 2.. easy matches please.

QF against Bartoli would be the best.. almost a bye.

There are 32 seeds. If Ana draws Vee, I'll start believing in conspiracy theories.

Re: La Terre Battue: Queen Revisiting The Land of Feelgood (RG - Olympic Year Edition

R1 and R2 (UNSEEDED PLAYERS): biggest name is Venus Williams and KIm Clijsters, but Kim w/o.
3rd round: Anybody except Jankovic (Jelena is in pathetic shape, and she suits to Ana game - but this will be too early for Ana to play match with such emotional background.
R4: not Kvitova which is so unpredictable, and its too early for Sharapova.
QF: Not Serena in quarter
SF: to be part of Azarenka half
Final: whoever

Welcome back Izzy!

It saddens me to hear that Ana wasted 6 set points against Maria, but somehow it doesn't surprise me.

We all just need to start praying for two things: some good draws at RG, Eastbourne and Wimbledon, and a sports psychologist!

Re: La Terre Battue: Queen Revisiting The Land of Feelgood (RG - Olympic Year Edition

Ideal R1 would be Mathilde Johannson Not only did Ana already beat her in Madrid (despite heavy choking), but Mathilde has always choked really badly at RG - I remember watching her lose 7 match points or something in the 1st round one year wth DFs on at least 3 of them.

I remember that! It was Johansson x Diatchenko. She wasted 11 MPs, 8 of them on DFs.

That's sad..

Thanks!

Yes.. it was the biggest choke I've seen from Ana.. and I've seen all but vs Kim in Miami.

And it was somehow expected.. Still hurts that she has to lose like this so often. What's worse is that about 4 of the missed set points were FHs to the bottom of the net. It just shows how afraid of winning she is. As tight as a mummy.

Re: La Terre Battue: Queen Revisiting The Land of Feelgood (RG - Olympic Year Edition

I think we are all missing the fact that Ana had very competitive matches against two best players now, bar Serena. Only the unfortunate draws in Madrid and Rome stopped her from going much deeper into the tournament. Also in Stuttgart Barthel was excellent.
Ana CAN make some damage in Paris.

I can't say anything about the Vika match, as it was a nobody saw kind of event.. but I don't think either Ana or Sharapova was playing well at all in their match. Sharapova was clutch while Ana was obviously not.

But ok.. she had competitive matches against top players.. couldn't close, lost tons of chances. Couldn't close Barthel either. Isn't that the difference between top 20 and top 10 anyway, what lies between the ears? If anything, this clay season has shown how Ana has now a somewhat solid game, not spetacular but enough to compete against top players. But it has also shown she has trouble closing and taking advantage of leads, and sort of freezes against top players. Long road ahead to recover relevance on tour. I agree draws were tough.. but she had openings and found creative ways to throw them away.

Now.. in RG she will have a top 4 seed for the 4th round. I have to say that Ana having a somewhat solid game, I'm hoping she can indeed reach that stage. But once there.. what are the real odds she can beat a top player? She couldn't take 7 SPs against a so-so Sharapova.. imagine MPs? So Ana has the game to do damage at RG, but does she have the brain?

Re: La Terre Battue: Queen Revisiting The Land of Feelgood (RG - Olympic Year Edition

Yes, closing the big matches was one of Ana's biggest qualities. RG 2007 semifinal - she finished the match with ace. RG 2008 - she used the first match point she had (it was a break point at the same time). I think that she didn't waste any match points in final neither. Now she struggles to convert break points, close the sets and matches. Last year it was much worse, a nightmare, but those problems are not completely solved. Maria saved 6 set points yesterday and when she got set point in both sets, she immediately won it. I remember the matches against Kvitova and Sam few weeks ago. It was amazing how she played every time she faced break points. That's the biggest difference between Sharapova and Ana.
